stutter while moving

Hi, looking for anecdotal confirmation here.

I'm still working through shifting in my prints (had to put my printer away for a long while and brought it out and the shifting is worse than ever). And one thing I'm looking at is slipping belts or skipped steps.

When I hook up mattercontrol (since I'm trying to go back to almost stock) and tell it to move -10 in the Z direction it seems to make 1-4 movements instead of just 1. Does this make sense or is this just an easy way for me to know that my steps are skipping?
