Looking for Dual Extruder Work-Flow

Post by elliot m »

Hi All-

So I've been doing some work to the RoV2 and converting it to a dual extruder with HE280. (I've had some issues with the original build and placed the notes here: http://forum.seemecnc.com/viewtopic.php ... al#p105559

I was hoping to start a thread on the general work-flow on getting set up to do Dual Extrusions:

So far this is what I have learned:

1. Install Cura - though not sure on the version. I have 2.6.0 but I am having issues connecting to the printer via USB - It would be nice to have the UI while at least getting started with the prints to see any issues with gcode or errors.

I did see some links on how to change the USB link in CURA to "False" but not being a programmer I can't figure out how to get permission from Python to let me save this change.

- the tower supports would be a wonderful help to reduce material for support. Has anyone used MeshMixer for dual extrusion? I use it for SLA printing and am very fond of it. But didn't know if it would support dual extrusion easily.

This one seemed to be the most interesting.
Changing the code from True to False. I found the file and saw that it was "True" but can't change it to False.
result = self.getSerialPortList(only_list_usb = False)

2. So I installed all the seemecnc printer profiles and the filament settings. This part was easy. I did have an issue with the wipe tower and placement - I didn't realize it was off the print area for a long time and why I was getting PrimeTower X and PrimeTower Y position errors, but changing the location from 140mm to 120mm solved this. I was wondering if we can put in an argument in this window: ie: 280-(PrimeTowerXDim) - then it would always be off to the side and never overboard.

3. Once the drawing is input and sliced...what's everyone doing?
3a. Use SD Card - but I would prefer to control and monitor from computer
3b. Import to MC? But I seem to be getting a weird slice image -

Imported directly to MC it looks like this:

I wasn't sure if the open grid is just the artifact of how I have it programmed for the internal infill - but I thought
it would be covered on both sides and appear solid.

3c. Connect through Cura - see above.

3d. Import to another free controller?

Finally - Thanks for all the help JJ - I appreciate having a launch point to start this from. If anyone is working with PVA/PLA that's what I am hoping to get upto speed on. Any changes to the standard settings or tricks are appreciated!
