Squishy handle.???

Post by kfonda »

Can anybody give me any hints as to how to correct this or at least what to call it, so I can narrow down my searches? I've tried slow down the print speed, adjusting the temperatures, adjusting the infill from 0% all the way to 100%, and everything else I could think of.

The cooling settings have a minimum speed, so as cross-sections get very small like that, the print speed stops slowing down and you still deposit plastic on plastic that's still molten.

You need to kill some time. Printing a second copy of the part or a column spaced far enough away for a significant amount of time to be spent in traveling is a popular way to deal with this.

What material, and are you using fans?

Meltink3d PLA/PHA, and yes, I'm using fans. Start off at 0%, go to 50% at layer 2, and 100% at layer 5.

I ended up printing 3 copies of the handle and putting an old computer fan on the print bed aimed at the parts to add extra cooling. The parts came out much better. I still have to figure out the right solution, but, at least I got the parts I needed done.

I agree with IMBoring25: printing a second part is one way to keep the hot end busy and let each layer cool some.

How many seconds per layer are you seeing for the upper layers? That top looks pretty tiny and easy to print too fast.

You can also try using a slicer that will automatically let you slow down even more for smaller layers, or else turn your print speed down manually when it gets to the handle.

I kind of figured it was printing too fast. I just didn't know how to slow it down enough. I'm using Simplify3d, so I can use its multiple process wizard to change the settings for just that part of the print. I think I know what needs to be done, I just need to do it now. :-)
