Whip holder fails after a few hours (Max3)

I have been having problems with def appearing after many hours. Finally determined that the whip that connects to the HE280 loses connection with the thermistor. This has become really sensitive. Anyone else have this problem? If so how did you fix it? Also having a problem printing the whip holder. Finally printed one that holds, but it is pretty ugly, lots of over extrusion on the small arms. Looking for some good parameters to use to print one out. Have been using PETG. Thanks.

Make sure that the wires are fully seated in the connector that plugs into the HE280 board.

That is exactly the problem. Even with the whip holder, a simple touch can cause it to lose connection. What is really frustrating is that it prints fine for several hours and I am never there when it goes def or stops dead without a message. I am hoping to bring it in. I bought it pre-assembled in January and have been having weird intermittent problems since I got it. There were a few things wrong with the build and I have been fixing things as I could. I think there is an electrical problem somewhere that I am not competent to find let alone fix. Very frustrated since this produces beautiful prints when it works.

Finally found the problem. The whip has lots of stranded wires coming into it. Some of them either broke off and shorted with others or were never really seated that well to begin with. So I am now about to attempt to clean the mess up and hope the printer starts working again. This has been very squirly to figure out. It has been going on for almost a year more or less, though it really started degenerating about 6 weeks ago.

I had mentioned my solution in your other post, maybe you overlooked it. I printed this retention clip https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2192079 and put a zip tie around the top, with very successful results. Hope it helps!

Otherwise you can do some rewiring to bypass the accelerometer for the hotend and sensor, but I'd only recommend it if you know what you're doing.

just use solder iron and retin all wires before you plug it in connector , small wires are to small for this type off connector

It turns out the 8 part connector was degenerating. I could actually see the second pin was not at the same position as the rest, it must have been getting worse as the printing continued (I do a lot of very long prints). I am hopeful the new whip will be the end of those problems.

Also, do NOT tin the leads that go into the 8 pin connector. Tinning the leads for a compression or press-fit connector is a recipie(sp!) for disaster.
