Trouble installing an E3D v6

Post by shmadum »

So I got my Max v3 about 8 months ago and tbh its been nothing but trouble since I got it. I need to print high temp filament so before it was assembled I purchased an E3d v6 to go on it, as I had seen other posts on here about how easy it is to set up. After 2 accelerometer boards I discovered the RAMBo board also had a short....couple of weeks back and forth and I have the replacement board and am trying to get the printer to actually print.

Heres the problems:
The hotend cant hit 210, it goes up to the 202 range and wont get any hotter
When Attempting to print with PLA at 200 it jams...ever...single...time

Anyone know why it wont heat up? I think the jamming is being caused by the E3D somehow, when I remove the filament it is all bunched up in a coil as if there was no hole for it to travel through. I cant figure out why it wont heat up though

Have you checked the Max Temp setting in your Firmware ?

Did you change the thermistor settings in the firmware for the nonstandard hot end and retune PID?

You may need to change the max PID drive upwards since the standard E3D heater is only 25W.

Is the fan turning (and turning the correct way)?

Is it a genuine E3D? There are a lot of clones out there and most of them are junk.

Even the genuine E3Ds are very susceptible to jamming if all the parts are not seated well-nigh perfectly. Follow the instructions precisely for connecting the metal parts. Make sure the Bowden tube is cut perfectly cleanly and perfectly perpendicular, and I even like putting a chamfer around the outside with a pencil sharpener. When you insert it, keep pushing it in while you lift up on the push-to-connect connector.

Ok I fixed the temp problem, I had the hotend incorrectly assembled, the part cooling fan was too close to the heat block. I assembled it correctly and now I dont have temp problems. It jams constantly though...

It is now, which may have been affecting it

I think the problem is the bowden tube wiggles free as is starts to print. I have a clip under the black coupler which should lock it in place but it isnt :(. I can try chamfering it, that sounds like a good idea but idk it seems more like a problem with the coupler or the tube itself somehow...

Ok im a dingus....after digging into the forums I saw someone with a similar problem fix it by lowering the retraction speed. Mine was set all the way at 65mm...I dropped it to 25 and no more jams

The E3D is very intolerant of fast and long retracts.
