MAX v3 Stops Mid-Print with Newer Firmware

Hi, all. I'm trying to figure out what exactly would cause the printer to stop mid-print. Last year I attempted to update to firmware version dated 20170414 from firmware version dated 090816 and I had this incessant problem where the printer would completely forget that it was printing something. It didn't re-boot. It didn't stop the fans. It didn't do anything. It merely stopped moving and the pressurized plastic would continue to ooze out at the location it was at until the pressure equalized. After much frustration, I simply downgraded my firmware back to 090816 and all was well.

Recently (today) I decided I'd try to update my firmware again, this time to firmware version dated 20171204. Same issue... I decided that I should rule out any special environmental/mechanical/electrical circumstances and cycle between all three versions of firmware that I had downloaded and try to print the file I was in need of. It stopped before getting through the priming loops on 20171204, then I flashed 20170414 and it stopped again before getting through the priming loops, then I flashed 090816 and all is well. It's currently plugging away on the 2nd layer of the raft and I couldn't be more happy (mostly because I had spent the last couple days trying to figure out bed leveling and I used the advanced calibration technique and I'm so geeked with how well it lays down plastic now...).

I'm still curious what would cause the printer to perform the way I have described above. I've found very little about this on the forums and I'm wondering if anyone else has the same issue but using different terminology than I could think of?

Thanks all,

-Matt

Are you printing from USB? If so, is your computer going to sleep?

Also, make sure that if you're compiling/uploading firmware, you're using the 1.6.0 version of the Arduino IDE.

Gene,

I only print from SD. I'll try to downgrade my Arduino IDE and see how that goes but I'm not sure I will feel the need to right now since I'm up and running well. Is there a history of major updates to the firmware somewhere linkable?

Thanks,

-Matt

The only version of the firmware that you should be running is the one on SeeMeCNC's git repo. It has customizations for the HE280 hot end that the main branch of Repetier Firmware does not have.
