LCD screen not coming up after successful flash

Post by bplemmons »

I flashed my LCD controller for the Rostock and the Marlin firmware shows up in Repetier but I still only show white boxes on the screen, I have the new LCD adapter. are all of the instructions the same as the old one?
When I use the Arduino ide software to upload it says It's done but it doesn't reset to a working screen like the instructions say....:(

I am using Polygonhell's Repetier firmware and the LCD works fine with it. I tried to get Marlin to work several times with no success. I am not sure if anyone here is running Marlin and the LCD, hopefully someone will chime in if they are!

Do I follow the same instructions for the Marlin firmware as far as adding and changing code for the marlin pin configuration settings? The files look different from what I have looked at...
Thanks again for your time....

I see that it was configured for the rostock so I assume that I don't need to make all of those changes, but after loading the other firmware the lcd still does not function unless I have to change something else in the repetier firmware.....

I still don't have a working LCD screen, I comes up with the white boxes but no words, I have checked and rechecked the directions and copied the new pin file, even tried the polygonhell firmware. Would someone look at my marlin firmware and possibly even try it to tell me what could be wrong, I would really appreciate it....

I have posted it as a zip file attachment, If it is good oters are free to use it if they don't want go through all of the editing....

Thanks guys!

Hey bill,

I compared yours to mine using winmerge, the both our firmwares are exactly the same at least for the marlin pde. Although I have not powered up my board yet. I'll check the other files required files for the lcd to work.

I wonder if the problem lies in the adapter board or wiring.

have you tried maybe swapping the connectors around, John says it wont hurt the board,

edit: I think i compared the wrong files let me try this again.

edit: I looked at all the required files. it seems correct, I'm no expert though.

I really need to power mine up to test but im not ready to do so yet.

can you post a picture of your adapter board?

Here are the pictures of the adapter, John Olley soldered it himself and it looks perfect to me, I have tried to switch the cables but the screen won't come up at all that way...
I sent the file to John himself but he hasn't replied back yet.
Thank you for taking the time to look at the file and I would love for you to try it when you can....

then its got to be the firmware, that photo matches my board also. If john is using this board and its working, he should be able to give us firmware to use it.

If yours isn't working, mine probably wont work either but imma give the firmware another look.

Are you still building yours? Have you noticed if you onyx in warped? mine is. try laying a straight edge over it. mine is off by about 5/32. Even though I have a glass plate on order, I'm concerned that i wont get good heat transfer.....

PCB beds are never flat and if they are when cold they still wouldn't be when they heat up, it's one of the reasons you put glass or some other known flat substance on top.
The Onyx tends to bow upwards when heated, since the glass is clamped on the outside it shouldn't have an issue with contact.

hey bill try this one, I found some discrepanies in your marlin file.

maybe this one will work, its updated for rambo 1.1 rev, and lcd. let me know if it works.

if the lcd works, you will have to go back and update your configs again.

had the same problem with lcd on Marlin FW, but i do something like this using arduino 022 and changing pin file (exactly 022, not newer IDE)
in arduino IDE when you open any file from the project for example configuration.h all the files will be loaded. And i don't know if this make a difference if you open your marlin project by marlin.pde or another file, but for me it's working when I opened it by marlin.pde. And one thing more: when I downloaded Marlin-for-rostockmax-ramboLCD it won't work for me. I have to download Marlin-for-rostockmax-rambo and copy/paste all the setting from the Geneb manual, and everything is now working
and it worked, now i'm using repetier FW

do you have a copy of your working marlin firmware with lcd? I was working from the rambolcd wiki page and marlin master file.
I would like to compare it to the wiki to see if there is a difference.

I have an original Rambo from the indiegogo lot. have an early LCD too that didn't come with the rambo adapter.

I made up the lead as per the geneB LCD manual, and then made the same changes to the Marlin firmware to enable the LCD. It worked first time, compiled with arduino 23.

Might be a bad LCD, I have a 4x20 LCD I bought elsewhere that won't display anything on the bottom line, the LCD is just a serial device, normally I'd expect if you get anything displayed it would all work.

Yours does exactly what mine does if I use John's Marlin file. Try the repetier firmware to see if it works. Something is wrong with John's LCD Marlin.
