I see a lot of direct drive extruders on Thingiverse, many of them Bowden type. One in particular is the AirTripper.
Has anyone tried one of these direct drive extruders on the Rostock and what results did you get?

Re: Minimalistic Extruder on the Rostock Max
My other 3d printer has a direct drive extruder, Bowden also. And I never had a problem with it, and it was stupid basic. Just a piece of plastic that is adjusted with a screw for tension of the filament to the extruder gear.
I want to try one sooner or later when I get some time.

Re: Minimalistic Extruder on the Rostock Max
I have four 3D printers. The printers with the direct drive work better and more consitantly. Only the Rostock Max uses a Bowden cable and I get the worst performance out of it. Just too many moving parts and too much to go wrong.

Re: Minimalistic Extruder on the Rostock Max
The only real issue with direct drive extruders is they have limited torque, but it shouldn't matter fot 1.75mm filament.
The average Wades is about 3:1 mechanical advantage, which is about the same as the difference in force required driving 3mm vs 1.75mm filament.
It's on my list to make one up and test it on the MAX.
