I've hooked up my LCD using the adapter that came with it. I have white boxes. I was messing about in the Marlin firmware that the instructions pointed me to. I still have the white boxes, and I think I messed up my firmware settings somewhere along the way. I am going to make note of what I need to fix, and start over from the zip copy.

Should the LCD be powered while not having the USB cable hooked up? I only get the white boxes when I plug in my USB cable and black screen when it is unplugged but the power supply is on. I would think it should run from the power supply, but that is must me otherwise it would kind of beat the purpose of not having a PC hooked up to the printer.

rambo by default is set to be powered by usb, you can change this by moving the power jumper to power supply. you can power it either way,

as far as the lcd, i would double check your firmware configuration, this is where most people have problems,

they dont have the right setup, in either arduino, or just dont have the correct changes to firmware. if you dont want the hassle of messing around in firmware, I'd suggest installing polygonhells repetier firmware, its ready to go for the lcd.

The Rostock install package from the SeeMeCNC website was helpful getting the LCD screen working.

Thanks for the info. I missed the installer packagebor it wasn't there a few weeks back when I was building my machine.

I've loaded Repetier frimware and my LCD is showing up. Now it seems I can't control the temp settings and extruder via Repetier host. I can set the temp and it shows that I set it, but it never heats up. This is consistent for both hotend and bed. I can see in the temp curve window that it thinks I set it, but the Rambo board isn't responding to it. I searched on the forum, and I'm sure this is already covered, but I haven't found it yet. If someone can point me to the thread, I would appreciate it.

Dumb question, but you are clicking the button right above where youre setting the temperature, right? Do the lights on your rambo or onyx led light up?

Ensure you don't have the DryRun button pressed, it prevents the Hotend and bed from heating.
Next thing to check is if the LED's come on on the RAMBO board when you set the temperatures.

Polygonhell - you nailed it. It was the dry run button. I didn't know what that was used for, but now I guess I do. Just move the print head around without heating up and extruding. Many thanks!

i finally got around to switching the jumper. Now my LCD is powered from the power supply. It is working like a champ.
