Would someone who is experienced with Cura please post their settings?

When the new board arrives from SeeMeCNC I will as my students are comfortable with Cura.

Haven't really dialed in settings for the Rostock as I've been trying out the newest Cura on the UM for the designer and trying to get Steve's hotend more PLA ready. I think I can once school gets out and I have a day to myself to get it ironed out. On the Cura front, though, Daid has turned the public loose on the newest slicer out there and I'm super impressed. For those that like the simplicity of Cura, you are going to love this even more. Power users beware, it leaves some features out intentionally, so if you like to set your extrusion width AND nozzle diameter, you won't see that option. Anyways, since most of you probably do not want to transition through multiple forums, I'm posting the link here and if you have any comments/concerns you can let me know and I'll pass those on.
FWIW, I believe the center bed wasn't functioning quite correctly on an earlier version of the software, and I haven't checked it recently. First print you are going to want to have the mouse on the emergency kill and/or have the part nearest the front left corner.

My cura settings.
layer height (.1-.3mm etc.)
wall thickness 1.0
bottom/top thickeness 1.2
fill density.. (whatever)
Filament diameter (measure your filament diameter after your extruder gears grab it.. ie the diameter in the bowden tube.)
packing density (again ABS or PLA.. ABS.. i use .85 PLA.. use 1.00)
Nozzle size .485 (each nozzle is different. i extruded 50mm of plastic, and measured it out after it was extruded)
line count 2
start distance 5mm
retraction
minimum travel 4
speed 55mm/sec
distance 6.5
extra length on start .07mm
travel speed 225
max z speed 245
bottom layer speed 12
minimal layer time 8
(i use a cooling fan)
expert settings
minimum feedrate 12mm
fan on layer 4
raft extra margin 20%
base material amount 110
interface material amount 60%
support
material amount 60%
distance from object 1.3
infill pattern grid hexagonal
solid infil top
infil overlap 39%
bridge speed 100%
print sequence loops perimiter infill
force first layer sequence on
joris is off (unless printing vase, etc)
retract on jumps only ON
enable hop on move (not needed for me, makes prints messy)
i use the FLOW THERMOSTST cura plugin for more precise temperature control.
my prints are really awesome.

Thanks for posting your settings.
I've since figured out how to use Cura.
Cura produced the best gcode in my test between kisslicer, cura, and slic3r.

Laser, I believe measuring the filament after the drive wheel is incorrect. The drive can and will reshape the filament, making accurate volumetric measurement pert near impossible. Most experienced printers recommend setting the steps per mm by physically measuring the actual length of what comes out, but as for diameter, you want what’s going in not what's coming out.

Perhaps, but i have been very successful doing it this way.
i measure several spots on the filament, and then average them together to get my results. this probably improves my accuracy.

That's exactly how you're supposed to do it - pull a meter or so off the spool and spot check it four or five times along the length with a caliper. Average the results and give that as the filament diameter to whatever slicing software you're using.

Yes, before you run it through the drive wheel.

The perimeter dots are somewhat telling.

Still working out some of the caveats with the new repetier firmware. filament was retracted too much and didn't prime quite enough before the print started.

Ummmm....ok. 100+mm isn't enough to prime? The dots start at the beginning of the perimeter and continue to the end. Pretty telling.
Btw, I was poking around the firmware today and saw this:
Code: Select all
// ##########################################################################################
#define EXT0_X_OFFSET 0
#define EXT0_Y_OFFSET 0
// for skeinforge 40 and later, steps to pull the plasic 1 mm inside the extruder, not out. Overridden if EEPROM activated.
#define EXT0_STEPS_PER_MM 292
If it works for you, wonderful. That fact doesn't make it sound advice for all.

Hey after many months of fiddling with everything this seems to be getting me good results even on holed items including my EEPROM settings
Only mod I have is the J-Head Hot End
Minimum travel in the advanced settings would be changed higher on fairly solid objects and even or a bit lower on items with tiny holes.
Also speed, shell thickness and Bottom/Top thickness on some items depending on the model and printing resolution.
hope it helps!
