More Extruder Problems.

Post by 6bolt2g »

I was initially having issues with the filament buckling and being pushed out the side of the extruder... Polygonhell's extruder cap fixed that problem (Thank you!)

Now I can't get the extruder to reliably feed filament to the nozzle. It will just start slipping on the filament. I've tried the following things:

1. Adjusted the tension on the extruder from one extreme to the other
2. Verified the temp on the nozzle by putting a thermocouple down the nozzle and reading the temp where the plastic melts (its within 5% of the thermistors reading)
3. Tried printing at higher temperatures (even extremely high)
4. I’ve manually fed filament down the nozzle to verify it wasn’t too difficult to push, and it wasn’t by any means.
5. I’ve tried slowing the prints down

None of these things helped at all…

The printer inconsistently stops extrudering, I started printing a part Friday night, it printed great for just over 18 hours (total build time was ~ 20 hours) then it just quit feeding filament.

I've tried printing PLA, ABS, and Nylon same problem with each.

What I don’t understand is I never had problems with this before; in fact it was the exact opposite. I was able to print amazingly fast without a single glitch…

Troubleshooting 101 asks what’s the last thing you screwed with? Well, I replaced the heating elements with one of the Reprap 40W ceramic cartridge heaters. I did start having these problems when I changed to that, but what I don’t understand is the temp of the nozzle appears to be fine, I’ve verified it with a fluke thermocouple a dozen times. I’ve read in numerous places that only one of these heaters is necessary, I’m wondering if I actually need two.

Does anyone have anything else I can/should try?

Thanks again guys, this forum and the people on it have proven to be an invaluable resource!

Do you mean set correctly in KISSlicer/Slic3r? or set correctly as in using the smaller knurled grooves?

If so, yes I'm sure of that.
