Gcode Ruleset for PLA versus ABS

I'm wondering if there are any rulesets we can put together that represent what to change and how to print when choosing between PLA and ABS.

I have a calibrated printer. It's printing out the calibration cube pretty well as well as the stretch bracelet. So, now, if I cruise over to Thingiverse and download random STLs things (knobs, gears, etc), I notice they're set for PLA. That leads me to wonder:

What are the rules or configs to set in the slicer?

1. PLA temp is mostly around 200. ABS is somewhere around 240.
2. Flow rate, should it be adjusted?
3. Speed Multiply?
4. Filament Thickness

The reason I ask is that I'm getting a bit of spaghetti in the centers - but I also know I'm starting with an STL with PLA settings.

(edited - due to my tendency to not complete singular thoughts. Thanks @PolygonHell)

STL's don't have settings for plastic in them, that's all in the slicer.
Are you downloading gcode from somewhere?

I edited. I thought we would build some kind of "Getting the most out of a print after initial configuration" FAQ.

Are you using Cura John? I just installed it this morning and notice it makes references to rulesets and I figure that might be why you are asking.

I can't get it to connect to repetier firmware however. Know any tricks?
