hot end clogged with metal pieces

Post by DaGroundZero »

My hot end jammed and the tube going into the top of the hotend had came out. I started looking and I found a few little chunks of metal at the top of the lining tube.

These look like they came from the screw thingy. The hot end is jammed up and I can't seem to get the nozzel off. Any suggestions on how to remove the brass Moseley?

Heat it up and use a pair of channel-locks to hold the lower section of the hot end while you remove the nozzle with a wrench.

Take care not to damage the resistors or thermistor.

I tried that and ended up ripping of a wire on the thermistor. Looks like hot end rebuild time. I still need to get the nozzle off too. dang the bad luck.

Yeah, you need to be VERY careful where you grab that thing. It's easier to deal with if you remove the hot end from the effector platform.

Don't feel bad though, I blew my first thermistor in half when I shorted it out against the power leads going to the resistors. :)

I received my replacement parts yesterday. I opted to go with a new hot end. I should be printing again tomorrow which is just in time for the weekend.

*** correction. With the new cartridge, I used my high temp tape and put the heating cartridge in place. It took about 5 minutes to get re calibrated, and I'm printing my second print now. The cartridge seems to show a nice even heating curve. So far, it is a keeper.
