When did this pop up?

Is this based on an existing design or is this all new? I wonder if theyll release printable stl's.

Was posted on twitter earlier today, if they'd have posted it a couple of weeks ago, would have saved me making up an airtripper extruder.

From the price I'd think that the new Rostock mount is extra.

I ordered mine a few hours ago.

I sure hope this works like I'm expecting. So sick of dealing with the retract issues...

I am currently using a direct drive extruder and IMO it's much nicer for retracts, but IMO half the problem tuning retracts on the rostock is the Hotend. Get a jhead or similar and you'll find the difficulty tuning to be night and day difference.

how did you guys order the mounts, i dont see it on the website.

I just ordered the kit on SeeMeCNC's site.

He showed it in the video, I assumed it came with it (even though it isn't pictured on the website)

Yea you're right.

The mounts in the video didn't look like they were for mounting it on the effector, which is what I want to do.

Let us know what he says.

My assumption was given the price there are no mounts supplied.
Other sites will charge you $12+ just for the hobbed gear.
It's got two screws, for a bowden I'd just drill 2 holes in the existing reel holder or better move the extruder to the top and shorten the bowden tube.

I think it's great that we've bought a product and a company that keeps iterating and building on what they know.

Strategically, this is a killer crossover move.

I like it, I ordered one to give it a shot. I did have dreams of dual extruders with a bowden setup when I bought the MAX. I think this is a gigantic leap in the right direction.

John says he is still testing the mount for the rostock but it will be up on the website when ready,

I just ordered one and would like to mount it on my newly acquired ORD Bot. Anyone seen any STEP files or other mechanical drawings so I can plot my mounting strategy? I expect the mounting equipment will not be available for the ORD Bot, but it can't be that hard to make it work. The flexibility of the system is very attractive. In a bowden style, I could probably mount the extruder to the carriage plate for a very clean look. Also, dual and triple extruders seem like they'd be really easy to accomplish in a nice tight configuration.

Any reason I couldn't design and print out a version of the adapter plates with room for three hot-ends in it?

Also, I got a shipping notice already. I thought it must be a mistake so I sent an inquiry and nope, it wasn't! Thanks for scurrying about for this guys!

Well mine apparently shipped.
Unfortunately I'm in Japan next week, so I won't be able to post any feedback until the week afterwards.

Is this related to hysteresis? I haven't messed with it personally, but in my research this sounds like the idea. Basically, the plastic changes shape whiled forced through the tube (longer the tube the more it is a problem) and can cause retraction issues because when it pulls back, it pulls more than it thinks because the plastic is shortened. At least, that's what I understand. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

The JHead is just a good design and the SeeMeCNC hotend hasn't quite gotten there. Not surprising given how many iterations it's been through, there is a reason it's probably the most widely recommended hotend.
The JHead has a short meltzone, which seems to result in less dribble, which makes cleaning up the strings with retracts easier.
I prefer the brass heater block on the JHead because of the higher thermal mass I think the thermistor tends to read more accurately, though you can get a similar win by insulating the outside of the heater block.

Don't get me wrong you can get and I have gotten excellent prints out of the SeeMeCNC hotend, I just find the JHead so much nicer to deal with.
I'm still messing with the E3D hotend at the moment though, I need to run some more tests, but I think I have my issues with it mostly resolved, and if that's the case it's very impressive.

An EZStruder arrived on my doorstep today - a nice surprise from the guys at SeeMeCNC! I have photos and the build in my Rostock build thread. My EZStruder came with the Rostock mounts so you can see what they look like. Took less than 30 minutes from the time I opened the box until I posted the build - including taking and editing all of the photos! It looks like a nice little unit, I'm looking forward to mounting it and giving it a whirl!
