Hello, I'm new to the forum and just recently finished building my Rostock MAX.

I have a question about it shutting off while it attempts to heat up before a print. I was able to print my first calibration cube, which turned out surprisingly well, but after that I haven't been able to keep the printer on long enough to make anything else. The thermistors show to the correct ambient temperature while the extruder and bed are off, but every time I turn them on it shuts down when the extruder gets to about 200c. Would anyone have any troubleshooting tips? I'm not really sure what kind of information is needed, so let me know if there's any other info I should give.

If I had to throw a guess at it, based on a total shut down (kills the PS until power cycle) I would guess you have a short that is only occurring after thermal expansion. No movement right?

Maybe a short but I've had shutdowns as well - I just thought it was timing - like I was leaving the preheat going for too long.

To solve that, I've just set the print temp in the gcode and not worry about preheat. I also tend to load the Gcode directly to the SD card and turn echo on, connect in Repetier and watch the output.

Hope it's not a short....

There is indeed no movement and everything shuts off including the power supply.

However, I've finally found time to mess with the printer some more, and it only seems to shut off when both the extruder and bed are running together. I can manually turn on one or the other at any temp for any length of time and have no problems, but as soon has both of them start to get up to printing temps it shuts down. Could it have anything to do with the Rambo itself?

It's more likely a bad PSU.

I agree with Poly, you can try to open the PS and see if there are separate 12V rails to connect to. It sounds like the unit you have is dying though.

Wow, that probably should've been my first guess. I feel like that was probably a waste of your guys' time. I tried a new power supply, and it's back to it's old self. I guess it's time to printing.
