print from sdcard?

hi,

i'm running the rostock-max but cant get the sdcard access to work. the lcd works ok (i can control hings from the lcd and see the status) but i cant neither mount/umount/print from the sdcard. all i'm getting is an "sd init fail". the sdcard is formatted fat16 and works ok when inserted in a laptop.

is this a known issue and/or are there further steps to debug/try?

btw: the rostock-max is a great machine already and with a lot of potential to further improve like the magnetic arms and last but not least this is a great forum with lots of info and awesome support.

regards

Not all SDCards are created equal, for it to work with the SDReader on the RAMBO board it needs to support the SPI interface.
Generally that means older cards with capacities <=4GB and FWIW I've never gotten a Kingston card to work.
The 4GB Sandisk card that I think shipped with my LCD controller works fine for me.

In case you have the same situation... With my LCD display (purchased back in March), I received both a pair of long ribbon cables and short ribbon cables. Although the LCD worked, the SD Card reader did not work with the longer cables. Once I switched to the shorter cables (19 in. long) it worked fine.

There's a warning tag in the LCD box about the maximum length of the ribbon cables. :)

Warning tag ornot, why supply cables that are too long with the LCD?

The cables supplied are the correct length - the ones I've seen only include one set of cables.

I think when they were switching over to the LCD kit supporting the Rambo from RAMPS back in March there were two sets of cables shipped, at least I received two. I also received two sets of interface boards.

All the early LCD's shipped with 2 sets of cables, when people had issues with the longer cables, they stopped shipping them.

A possible solution for using the longer cables is to get a flat foldable ferrite core and place it around the cables.
I read where Hoss from CNCZone did that and was using cables about 36" long. The problem is finding the flat
ferrite. All Electronics had them for sale but they are out of stock.
