I made a replacement drive gear for my garage door opener.
Printing slowly in PLA, it took about 5 1/2 hours to print.

A co-worker and I discussed the resilience of printed gears in daily use. I would be very interested in seeing how well this wears ( I argued the "just as long as any other properly used plastic gear" side of the debate).

Compared to the gear that it replaced, it was pretty hefty. I had designed it kind-of quickly so it had more solid places where the original was hollow. The PLA also had a different feel than the plastic it replaced and probably will wear differently but I'd agree that it should last at least as long.
I do still cringe a little when I press the open button, expecting to hear the teeth being ground off of it.
