A New Challenger Has Arrived!

Greetings all!

In my humble opinion, 3D printers are a kind of tool that should be available in all households, like a tube of superglue or power drill... actually, those three tools can probably be a formula to solve a lot of issues.

I'm familiar with use and consumer build and design of PCs and have limited soldering experience, but I'm going to be a new member of the 3D printing community. I'll be shopping for a 3D printer for the next month, but I've got the Rostock MAX and Printrbot PLUS bookmarked thus far based on features and staff feedback. What drew me to this community is that it doesn't appear to be composed of elitist goons. I know that my lack of experience with assembling and using such devices will probably require me to reach out to those who know better, and I would rather a tolerant crew than an arrogant one.

Looking at some of the build threads for the Rostock MAX, it looks terribly intimidating to put together as a first project, but it also looks like it's the most rewarding. The build area, output quality, and material compatibility rivals or exceeds competing products that are more than three times as expensive. Also, I'm certain that I would learn a great deal while putting this together.

I'll keep the search function in mind and apologize in advance for the newbie questions.

PS - The automated account verification email sends a URL that looks like the following:

Code: Select all

http://forum.seemecnc.com/forum/ucp.php?mode=[omitted]
This results in a 404, but it seemed to work if i omit the "forum/" portion.

Welcome! I have both a Printrbot jr. and Rostock Max, the Max is/was(ongoing mods) a challenge to build. The Printrbot...fairly simple. Although I'm betting the LC or Plus would be harder. If you choose the Max, be forwarned...you will "giggle like a schoolgirl" on the first print :)
And you will learn a lot from this community. ;)
