I am potentially going to buy some Astrosyn Nema 17 dampers for a personal project, however astrosyn only sells in a quantity of 10, and I only need 3. I would be willing to sell the rest at close to $5 a piece (not sure of shipping yet, but its probably be $1-2 per damper). An ebay transaction would be preferred, so maybe I'll just link to them from ebay to here. Just tell me if you are interested and if I have enough people I'd probably get them.

Lead time would probably be 1-2 weeks depending on UK shipping

The United States is not listed as one of the countries they ship to for some strange reason.
Have you verified that they ship to the United States?

They (privately) offered to ship some to the US so I don't see why not. It was some ridiculous price like $25, so shipping might make them more expensive (like $7 a piece), but they seemed open to it.

I am in for three.

I just spent a couple of hours last night cutting gaskets from polyurethane sheet (not installed yet), but Flateric has made me curious how much better the dampers are.

These are the exact same mounts I current use. I cannot say enough about how much of a night and day difference they make. In sound reduction AND in print quality. If you have your printer tweaked to the very edge of being flawless, the addition of these will show you how much better it could be yet again.

I like them so much I will take 3 more of em off you for future projects.

So mark me down for 3 of your extras.

I should be able to order more than 10 (if they have enough stock), so the 12 I have listed for all of you should be fine.

However, looking up shipping prices to the US from the UK, its gonna be around $25 for shipping, so my estimate of $7 each looks about right. These might end up being a bit more than that however.

I've contacted them to see how much special shipping would be to the US, so we'll see. It would be tomorrow morning they got back to me, its 10pm there now.

Everyone still in? I am totally not sure how payment is going to work (I've never really done anything like this, either the group sales or a forum sale). Paypal is preferred, but I dont know if it works for everyone. I will not accept the wiring of funds via Western Union or Moneygram (or any other wire service).

EDIT: just checked shipping from me in the US. Its about 2 dollars per envelope that I send (I believe I can send them in a standard envelope, they would be small enough), if the mounts weigh 2oz each. Shipping to canada is a bit more, but not much.

EDIT 2: Order is up to 18 total mounts. 12 for you (I got a PM), and I'm taking an extra set. Might as well be prepared to build something else...

Ok, ... I am up to 25 dampers now (approx $150 with shipping.. ) ... I will see what astrosyn says about shipping and get an estimated price on these hopefully tomorrow.

Let me know what you hear back from astrosyn as I may be interested in a set of them.

I say take the paypals before you place the order that way you have the cash in hand, people cannot bail on you and your not out any coin other than what you yourself wish to order. Seems fair to everyone involved.

Actually paypal sounds best to get everyones $ beforehand, I was a bit concerned putting in a $150 order not knowing if anyone would follow through... I guess if I did it this way I could put a few more orders in.

Also just a note to those who may not be able to afford or get the cash together at this time or even in the future reading this feeling that they potentially missed out......

The dampers are easily sourced from used photocopiers, paper feeders, some fax machines and scanners. My original set was obtained in this way by scavenging from old photocopiers. The bigger and older the beast you can find the better. Your not after the cheapo plastic desktop scanner/copier/fax machine combo units. Although a few, very few make use of these there too.

Anything heavy and steel made use of these because without them the resonation was so sever that in some cases quality and accuracy suffered. The machines would have been unbearable howling nightmares without them in an office environment. If you have older electronics junk around you very likely have some of these already.

Besides I really feel everyone should totally dis-assemble an old copier atleast once in their lives, you'll be amazed the cool stuff and part you'll aquir and the things you learn that you can apply to oh so many things later on.

My 1st revision of my CNC router was built entirely out of 3 old photocopiers, the part for my DIY controller, drivers, interfacing, linear slides, bearings and stepper motors, all from three old copiers, minolta's I think.

Ok, they replied to me (at the time I was at 21 dampers, now I am at 34)

Assuming shipping price is calculated using the Royal Post - which they quoted me with.. (The closest quote I could get was 50p different than theirs)

For 21 dampers the price is £55.65
x 3% credit card rate = £57.32
+ £17.50 shipping = £74.82
x 20% VAT (killer) = £89.78 (or $135.37)
making them $6.44 each + $2 ish shipping to you.

Now if each mount is 30g (off their datasheet), + 100g for packaging, that puts shipping at 1.12kg and an (estimated) £23.30

Lets see, 34 dampers @ £2.65ea = £90.10
x3% credit rate = £92.80
+ £23.30 shipping = £116.10
x 20% VAT = £139.32 = $210.07

Which puts them... $6.178 each. If I ship them in standard envelopes, its probably around $2 for a set of 3 shipping. So a set of 3 comes out to $20.53, a set of 6 at $40.06 (shipping increases).

Ill try to get all the paypal off to you also. Not sure what to do about paypal fees, its $21.44 for three with paypal's standard fee (2.9% [I rounded to 3%] +$.3 per transaction).

Of course, this is all based on if you guys are fine using first class mail, no tracking. If you specifically want a package with a tracking number shipping is going to cost around $6. PM me if you do.
I'll start sending paypals hopefully later today and get the order out tomorrow if everything goes smooth.

They should not charge VAT for exports. Remind them you don't have to pay VAT.

Sent off an email but its 10pm again there... overseas email really is a pain

Without VAT the total would come out at.. $5.16 a damper, $18.26 for 3 (inc. shipping), and around $35.22 for 6 (inc. shipping).

As far as I am concerned that is cheaper than dirt for such a useful addition to the printer.

I also do not think it unreasonable for you to make a couple bucks of each of us for going through all this trouble. I personally say and even $25 bucks is more than fair and call it a day. If any one of us tried to buy 3 of them as an indavidual, the price for 3 would be dramatically more than $25.

Sorry about this all, but I'm afraid I won't be sending PMs' out until I have the product in hand (i keep changing my mind..). And to keep extra level of safety in case something happens in custom's or whatnot. I've not heard anything back from the astrosyn folks yet about VAT, but I'll probably keep the price at around $20 for 3 and around $40 for 6. I'll let know know what the charge is once they are shipped.
I'll be placing the order today or tomorrow morning.
