Just saw it on display at Detroit Maker Faire, it will be called the Orion as labeled in your photo. They were saying they still have not settled on price yet but from they way Steve was talking, $499 could still be a couple hundred shy of what they are looking for. B.T.W., even more awesome show than last year.

RAMBo is overkill for a low-end printer. A low-end board could have just exactly enough components for the printer as shipped.

I think Ultimaker is printing money at their current prices. I'm willing to bet it can be $75 if they would produce at volume.

So, at $750 or $850, get this or a Max? For me, the Max.

I would be interested in a low-end board, I am familiar with Ramps which others are there?

The printerboard and various variants are probably the cheapest, there is at least one Chinese merchant that sells them for $80 and I've seen them on sale for $39. Generally boards with integrated stepper drivers can be considerably cheaper than RAMPS or similar.

I travel with my printer enough that a smaller version is an appealing prospect.

I don't think it would replace my Max, but a little printer would definitely get some use.

Now that John has posted some higher resolution photos, I see that the delta arms are exactly the same, except (a) they're shorter, and (b) they're blue.

LOL, yeah, the arms are shorter, looking like 178mm will be the final hole-to-hole measurement. They're blue because they're PRINTED! Yeah, reprap bonus points! Steve made them thicker on one side, and lengthened the area that has to stretch to snap on the u joints. It makes them MUCH stiffer, yet easier to not get hung on the Delta blues with no sanding on the ends.

We're doing the fully assembled thing first, and it'll be around $1500 prob. out the door. Yes, we could skimp on the electronics, like use a printrboard clone (cloning ain't cool) or even a ramps board, but, these are assembled machines going to people who, if they had the time/skills to tinker with less than the best setups, would have done so already. I think sticking with the best setup out there is the right choice, and will help in the long run. When you look at the machine, the only thing it has less of than the MAX is a little less melamine, and 33" less t slot, so not much different in the raw material cost, but going all assembled sure brings a lot of labor in it.

LOL, You guys caught the delta arm blues reference there in the printed parts! Too Funny. Actuallly, if you look closely, the arms are shorter for one, they are much thicker on one side, and the openings for the U joints are much longer. The thicker side makes them WAY more stiff in all directions, and the longer opening for the u joints will allow us to mold them without the need for sanding, as they will be flexible enough to lightly pinch the u joints but not too much to cause a binding.
