Source for wood used with Rostock?

Post by drandolph »

So I can get the normal 5mm Birch ply and any acrylic I want however I just finished my Rostock Max build and I already see things I want to do to improve it. I have my own laser cutter and I would like to make my parts out of the same material that seemecnc is using in their kits.

Anyone know a good source for ordering it? It looks to be Melamine vinyl covered MDF thats 1/4" thick? I can't find it anywhere other than China and I don't want to order a shipping containers worth just to get a few small pieces.

Sadly Home Depot only carries that 3/4" particle board junk you find in IKEA style furniture.

My local HD carries the material, but it's only coated on one side. :(

At some point I want to make new round parts for one of my machines that uses 3/8" Baltic Birch, but pocketed for the tabbed parts, not cut all the way through.

So I found a source. Sadly they won't ship but they do carry they exact stuff in white/black and they also have about a dozen other wood veneers like bamboo/cherry/walnut/etc. I was impressed and the price was $26 for a 4x8 sheet and for $5 they cut it down to size so it was ready to fit my laser cutter.

If they won't ship, you're just teasing us. :)

Great price on the material though!

Why not use birch ply? The primary advantage of the melamine board is that it's cheap. You'd probably need to go thicker than 5mm, though.
