I found the "angel eye" leds from superbrightleds.com at a cheap price and in any color you might want. They may or may not be too bright for illuminating the bed.....but most importantly, you can buy light diffusing covers for them to shield them from the heat. Here is a few pictures:

The page for all their angel eye stuff is here: http://www.superbrightleds.com/search/l ... cts/angel/

The 80mm O.D. one has a 60mm I.D. and looks perfect for my needs. I will install mine when I upgrade my arms to the magnetic ball mount version. The cheapest 80mm unit costs $9.95, the diffuser is $1.95. Hook it up to the peek fan circuit....and you have a dimmer for it. Figured I'd share my arc reactor with everyone.
Oh, by the way, they have a RGB color changing one with a fancy remote control........might be cool enough for a maker faire or exposition.

Gene B uses something like this and seems to like it a lot. I had been using a printable LED holder ring, but those have clearance issues with hot ends that don't protrude very far below the effector. I think I will pick up one of these for the effector and maybe find a larger one for up top.

You might want the light diffuser for that, eagle. The heat might cook it later on. I can see where the diffuser might get in the way of the proper hot end clearance, though. Your call on that. I may end up removing the hot end spacer to clear mine. I may also insulate the tip of the hot end with stainless steel foil to protect the effector plate if I print it out of ABS. Not bad shopping, by the way.

This is the unit I recommend:

It's a perfect fit for the effector platform. Only takes two wire ties or 3 custom clips to mount.

Great find! That one looks like the one I am going to go with.
