Dual E3D Hotend

Post by cope413 »

Ok, so I love the E3D end so much that I want a 2nd one so I can dive into the world of dual hotends.

After some rough measuring, I believe there's enough room to mount 2 of them on an effector plate without changing any of the rod-mounting geometry, but I'm unsure exactly how the offset works, and what effects, if any, that would have on printer_radius or delta arm diagonal (or anything else).

I'm going to tool around in Solidworks to see if there's room to mount them in a logical way, but if anyone has any further insight into areas of concern or specific things that need to be addressed, I'm all ears.

There's a great thread on dual extruders in this very forum; you can find some good advice on the extruder offset, etc. on page six of the thread.

Yeah, I saw that thread, but for some reason I can't view pages 2 and 3 on that forum, so I'm a little lost. It locks up on me and says the pages aren't responding.

Were you thinking of mounting them above or below the effector?

I was thinking about above, but space is tight - especially when the plate moves out to the edges of the build plate.

I actually contacted them and got this response from Sanjay...

"We do indeed have a multi-nozzle model on the way, I am waiting on the manufacturer to deliver the first samples in the next few weeks. The initial and very small run of alpha units are all spoken for, but after that we will open up a limited Beta-Run on the site where you will be able to order one for a discounted price on the understanding that it is still a beta unit. (Although we won't release as beta until we truly think it is ready for release)

Keep and eye out on the site and around forums/blogs etc. It's on the way!"

So I'm just gonna hang tight and hope to get my hands on a beta unit.
