How have you folks with E3D hotends ended up mounting them? I've got the J-head adapter from SeeMe, but I've had to shim and finangle things to provide enough clearance for the fan mount. Was curious how others have solved this?

I printed a new effector platform for it. Mine uses a magnetic ball upgrade, but it shouldn't be that hard to make your own replacement part to adapt the E3D for the default rostock u-joint plate.

Thats a pretty nice setup do you have any STLs? Maybe even a 2 E3d version?

I made that for the Bowden version, so make sure that's the one you ordered (or get something that will mount to the non-Bowden version, like the Trick Laser J-head mount. The Bowden version is better for us.) I've been printing with mine for something like a month and the mount is still fine. One word of caution: hotwire the fan or use G-code and Repetier options to make sure it's always turned on. If you forget to turn the fan on and the heat is on, heat will creep up the hot end and deform the mounting plates, and things will get wobbly.

What is that really cool looking split or dual feed situation thing you have going on there in the second and third photo down? Also I would love to have a copy of your stl's if you feel like sharing.

I am getting the bowden version, so that should be all right. Is there a way to alter repetier host to automatically send the "fan on" gcode when powering the hotend? It would be a little inconvenient to hotwire the fan, though I'll definitely do it if there's no other good way.

I think there's an option for turning off the fan once the print is done. I can't start Repetier right now or I'd check. Also, your slicer should have a section where you can put in G-code. On KISSlicer this would be the Ptr G-code tab, under Postfix, to ensure that it stays on after the end of a print.

The most important thing is actually not to keep the fan on after a print, but to keep it on between prints if you keep the heat turned on. If it switches off at the same time as the heat, and the heat STAYS off, it won't matter.
