Where have you seen this? Is it just an option in a recent build?

It's in the new features list of the new release - look it up http://manual.slic3r.org/ find it under the heading of expert mode .

Look at that...there it is.

Great, now I've got something else to experiment with ;)

So, have you attempted to use it yet, or was your question purely an inquiry? It seems that you just set the range of heights in mm and a layer height that corresponds to that range. Quite a manual process, but if you know the geometry of say a domed surface, you could gradually step down the layer height to get a smoother finish.

Or if you were printing something like the cups for the magnetic arms, you have thin layers for the base of the cup that comes into contact with the bearing, but for the part that is just a tube to fit onto the arm, you'd increase the layer height. Could speed up the print time alot when your printing 6x at a time and such.

I wish I would have known this when I printed mine. Don't get me wrong they're working great as I polished them with a bit of acetone, but I'm sure this would have been nice.

What I don' understand is why don't I have the option of ver layer height within REptier Host - only in the stand alone slicer app this option exists?

Any thoughts?

Did you download Slic3r from its website and that is what you mean by standalone? If so, the version might be different/newer than that bundled with Repetier Host.

The ver of Slicer wrapped with Repiter Host doen't give the option to click on the object and have its properties displayed for layer editing - while the stand alone Slicer (the dnloaded ver from the web site will do that. It would seem to me to be a gui related issue ...

It might be. The GUI exposed by Repetier Host is different (as you well know). I'm not sure if it is a different version, though.

Just try using the "stand alone" version and import the gcode into Repetier Host when done, or, save to SD.
