Hey,
I feel like im blowing up the board today, but have finally been able to spend a lot of time with the rostock. So today I've managed to print around 5 prints, most coming out pretty well. Tonight, I started to print another, and the X axis stepper motor simply stopped. I tried switching the X and Z axis motor leads to see if it was truly the motor, or something electrical. When I switched the leads, the X axis stepper worked fine, and the Z axis was dead. I also tried reinstalling the " device driver" and resetting the board, as well as using several different computers, disconnected and reconnecting the machine etc to repetier. So....
This leads me to believe several things
1. The X stepper motor works fine
2. The wiring itself to the motor works fine
3. There could be a problem in the board?
4. There is some communication issue, that is telling the x axis port to " work". ( maybe in board? )

From your description you have a bad Rambo board. The driver for the X stepper is blown.
You can check the small fuses on the board but I doubt that they are a source of the problem.
One way that an axis driver can get blown is if your connections at the plugs where they plug into
the pins are not wired properly and the loose connection will definitely blow the driver if the power is
on and the wire loses connection. Although I believe that this Rambo is blown, I do not want you
to put in another and have it blow also. Carefully inspect the plugs and ensure they are ALL wired
properly. I think there are pictures in the assembly guide that show you what the plugs should look like.

I'm not 100% certain, but couldn't the same behavior happen if the end stop connection for the X-axis got broken?

No, it should still move the X-axis. It would just ram into the top of the machine on homing, though. Your troubleshooting method by changing the steppers and verifying their operation was apt.

I concur with Eaglezsoar. Check wiring *carefully.*

Even though we're only working with 12VDC max, the couple of amps that the steppers pull can do a lot of damage when they are allowed to play outside.
