I had this 50 watt 12v halogen flood light here and another old computer power supply already wired up so I came up with this. The light is extremely bright but it puts off so much heat it may affect the prints. Also this light pulls so much power I did not want to run it off the main power supply. I am not sure how many watts the entire machine takes when running yet but did not want to overload the main supply. The second power supply does fit in the compartment between the Z and Y posts.

Wondering if anyone else has tried lighting like this? I was looking at mounting lights on the hot end mount but was hoping to avoid hanging more stuff out there. Any suggestions?

I see that no one has ever responded to you. This is becoming more common on this board. I found this message by viewing unanswered messages.
The problem with a light like that is that it is inefficient. Most of the power it uses is converted to heat. Leds offer brightness and are tremendously
efficient, that is the type of lighting you should use. Led lights come in flood versions now and many others. There should be no reason to use a bulb
that contains a filament or is based on cold cathode, florescent etc.

I suppose there *could* be an advantage to the heat given off by such a light as a way to keep the build area above the heated bed warm. Especially for ABS prints

You should complete the package, take some cardboard box, line it with tin foil, and surround your printer with it.

Don't forget the duct tape Oh, and zip ties too

This bulb would melt duct tape for sure I used this for a day and then scrapped it. It was so bright! A couple times while looking at prints I got the direct blast in my retinas and it hurt.
I just noticed another post with a LED ring that looks great. http://forum.seemecnc.com/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=3708 I agree with his idea of not mounting it to the hot end.
