Hi

I now, this is not the best forum to ask this question, but my wife and I are planning for us honey moon ( end this year ) a two week US trip ( I`m a big US fan ).

What can you recommend to see a lot of the US in two weeks ( Drive a Pick UP )?

The Big Apple is not a choice for us

I'm originally from Colorado. If you like the outdoors, mountains and scenery? Start there and make a big loop. Fly into Denver, drive through Rocky Mountain National park north, make your way into Wyoming(See the Tetons), turn and come back south, through Utah(Zion and Bryce Canyon parks), into Northern Arizona (The Grand Canyon), into New Mexico(Carsbad Caverns), come back into southern Colorado and see Mesa Verde, Royal Gorge, Great Sand Dunes, and the Colorado Springs area (Pikes Peak). Be warned though! This trip might actually take 2 months because those are some serious miles You could probably spend 2 weeks just in Colorado. If that's the case go to Glenwood Springs. Huge hot springs! and make day trips from there. Congratulations! and have fun!

If I remember right, you're from Switzerland. First thing about the USA is simply that's its HUGE, more than twice the size of the ENTIRE European Union. It's impossible to get more than a taste in only two weeks. Unless you just want a few ideas out of the blue, we really need more information about what you're looking for.

About what month did you have in mind, and what climate do you want to experience? Hot ok? Cold ok? Oceans? Mountains? Desert?
Do you want tourist type destinations?
Do you prefer city attractions? Nature attractions (Niagra Falls, Grand Canyon)? Oceans or mountains? National parks?
Are you looking for something physical/adventurous (river rafting in the Grand Canyon, for instance)?
Casinos? (Las Vegas!)
Theme parks? (like Disney World mentioned above)
Museums? (The Smithsonian museums in Washington DC are excellent)
Zoos/Animal Parks? (San Diego, California has both)
Wine country and Winery tours/tasting?
Any special interests you want to satisfy? Music? Technology?
Destinations that have friends you'd like to meet?

Washington DC is my recommendation for the largest density of museums, city-type parks, and interesting things to see while walking around. There are more woodsy parks nearby (walking trails along the old canal come to mind) and in easy driving distance. The Hershey car thing would be a 2-3 hour drive from there, if you wanted to go there. Check out http://www.si.edu/Museums and http://www.nps.gov/nr/travel/wash/index.htm

Of course, most major cities would have similar things to see: New York, Baltimore, Boston, Philadelphia, New Orleans, San Francisco, San Diego, Las Vegas, and many others. No reason you can't hit several if you arrange flights or pick those close enough to drive to.

I'm not really a car buff, other than driving and fixing them before they were classics. The Imperial Palace museum in Las Vegas has a nice collection if you go there. Drag racing I can't help with at all. Sorry.

Steakhouses are everywhere. No point in trying to recommend anything specific until you pick your destinations.

We are not sure where exactly we are going to go, we would simple like to make a nice route in 2 weeks, something for me and something for wife

Depending on the exact time of year, you could stop by Northern Indiana here, and see the SeeMeShop. We're not too far from Chicago, and I can take you to a few local racetracks and get you the inside scoop on circle track racing in the midwest

If you get the chance, hit the Museum of History and Industry in Chicago. They've got a U-Boat, the U-505 on display. (one day.. *wistful sigh*)

This invitation is great John thanks. I am really happy and I start today to persuade my wife make the Holliday in Chicago
To see the SeeMeShop is really a great idea and the racetracks is also really cool.

John's right about the local racing scene around SeeMeCNC. There are probably 6 little racetracks within an hour's drive. There's a drag strip that runs every Sunday too. Notre Dame is in Northern Indiana, Chicago is within day-trip distance too.

If you go to Detroit (THE Motor City) the Henry Ford Museum is one of the most amazing museums in the country. It's like a mini-Smithsonian.

Kalamazoo Michigan has an "Air Zoo" which is a great aviation museum. It's half way between Detroit and SeeMeCNC.



Honestly, if you're in the states in September, you should go to one of the state parks in the northern part of the country to experience the trees in fall. That's a destination in itself. There's a park I've been eyeballing in Pennsylvania. I think it's Cherry Springs State Park, and it's one of the darkest places in the country. There is so little light pollution that the Milky Way casts a shadow!

No matter where you go when you get here, I would like to welcome you to the USA.

If you are considering Chicago, there is a NHRA drag strip about an hour west of the loop. It's in Joliet, IL. Also there is one of the worlds largest classic car auctions on labor day weekend in a town called Auburn, IN. Auburn also has a very nice WWII museum and the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Museum. About a 3 hour drive from Chicago. SeeMeCNC's shop lies almost perfectly midway between the loop and Auburn.

If you like museums. I would recommend the smithsonian in washington DC or the Henry ford in Greenville Michigan. Alot of classic cars at the henry ford so it would be good for both of you. Been to both both are very nice. Oh yeah its Disney world in Florida not disney land, thats in California

My Wife and I start easy to plan the trip and chicago is the favorite.
