Anyone have any personal experience with it as of yet?

I am hoping that the 1.75mm version is specific to 1.75mm filament and not just the same thing with a different fitting as the 3mm. This is my one disappointment with the bulldog. It is a 3mm extruder that "also" works with 1.75mm filament which results in a less than perfect filament path.

I have asked the seller about this question and will let you guys know his reply. It;s a pricey extruder, but I am a believer in the all metal design now that I have used and modded my bulldog for awhile now. The critical part of these extruders however is the geared stepper on them. Without this they are just another direct driver extruder which, personally I do not favor.

on the J, Would it not be possible to just replace the PEEK section with an aluminum one?

What's the reasoning for going to these geared extruders? Is the resolution of the extruder (e.g. EZStruder) too low for certain types of prints?

Other way around. The gearing increases the mechanical advantage of the motor at the expensive of resolution. But there's usually plenty of unneeded resolution to give up on a direct-driver extruder.

I think you have your logic backwards? 5:1 ratio means ideally 1/5 of the effort, but 5 times the distance, aka you can push less filament easier, so it requires more steps to push the same amount of filament, increasing the resolution? Thats why the Greg/Wades is so popular, small gear to big gear, less effort, more steps, greater resolution and control?

You're right, of course, I wasn't thinking correctly. It increases the mechanical advantage AND resolution at the expense of top-end speed. However, I still don't think the extra resolution is of that much value in the extruder.

I would say its a balance, personally I would always want somewhere around a 5:1 ratio, most Greg/Wades are around that, i think my set is 49:11. I'm not a fan of direct drive extruders, I've gotten much more reliability from my Greg/Wades than with the Airtrippers or the Ez, though the design does help. Direct vs geared isn't as big of a deal with 1.75 as it is with 3mm, but I would still prefer a geared Extruder

I think these would be too heavy unless other mods were made. Anyone have a review of these?

What's to review? They have been using these for years for the reasons Nyloke gave.
Xnarron uses one, a lot of the big boys use them.
