Upgrade kit for v1 owners?

Gene says the Rostock Max 2 has a different top and bottom that should make getting the machine aligned far simpler, and eliminate the need for hours of painstaking experiments with rotating the towers in firmware.

SeeMeCNC, if you guys start cutting upgrade kits, I will be #1 in line to buy one! I like my old lexan kit but I just want to have done with it.

Upgrade kit details are currently not available.

I really wish I had known the V2 was coming, had just got mine a few weeks ago, had I known it was coming I would have just waited to get the new and improved one without having to spend another $300 for the upgrade :/

I only wish I had known the iPhone 5 was coming when I bought my iPhone 4.
I only wish I had known BMW was going to make a 2014 model of my car.
I only with there were going to be younger women in the future when I married my wife.

You get the picture :)
Does the fact that the v2 is out somehow break your v1? Has your v1 suddenly stopped working?

Sorry, I may be a little grumpy about these things, but I hate to always see these kind of posts on tech forums. What do you want a tech company to do? Stop innovating to make you feel better? Announce new models years in advance so they can be the ones stuck with "old" inventory?

You bought a great printer. Enjoy it!

Hey 626Pilot,

I just finished printing out 4 copies of leg clamps for the Rostock Max v1. Does this mean this will render the technique you outlined obsolete on thingiverse and the need for the clamps obsolete?

I've heard talk of several different options. I don't know which ones SeeMeCNC will offer, but here are the possible flavors:

R3 Printer, assembled (shipping size issues)
R3 in kit form (replacement for current Max kit)
R3 wood only (V1 to V2 upgrade kit)
R3 wood/bed/aluminum/belts for Orion ("supersize" me kit)

I'd love to have the wood only kit to convert my original Rostock Max.

**edit** I guess it's been called R3 and V2... To muddy the water further, I suggest we all start calling it the MKIII and/or Preparation-C :)

At least we won't be calling it preparation H.

With the announcement of the Rostock Max 2 I'm assuming it will be at the Midwest Reprap Fest in March. It would be even sweeter if you could pick up an upgrade kit for those of us with v1 Maxes while we're there! Steve/John - if you weren't already thinking in that direction, might I suggest it!

I hope so. Also, I switched to using belt clamps. Lots easier to install and remove.

I'm up for buying a new wood kit in two weeks and dragging it home on the plane!!!

Can we also get autocalibration going in a R4?

A lot of people have been waiting for the upgrade kit but no release date that I am aware of.

The v2 design locks the towers in place such that radial calibration errors are likely a thing of the past.

Calibrate it once and forget it. Auto-calibration isn't anywhere close yet, so don't hold your breath.

Do you have more info on the belt clamps? :geek:

theverant, the v2 clamps are the same as used in the Orion. Download the v2 manual and read section 11 to see what they look like and how they're installed.

You are making me want one more and more. I refuse to read the manual because I would want one even more and my wife would kill me when I raided our savings. :)

Do we know if this upgrade kit contains stuff that can't be cut from a sheet, like hardware or whatever?

At this point, I haven't found any information of what the kit will contain or when it will be released for sale. I would assume besides the wood pieces
it would include the new effector. Everything is just a guess because no one is talking about it.
