I've been having troubles with the RAMBo overheating and prints going off the rails. It takes hours with ABS, but I've been experimenting with Nylon and it's happening MUCH faster due to the higher temps (280c with an e3d v5 hotend).

Does anybody who has added a fan to their RAMBo have pictures of their setup? I'm going to shamelessly copy one and get back up and running ASAP - trying to print myself a phone case.

Just recut to move away from the acrylic and modify some aspects of the design. I only include the other two because those changes have made an meaningful impact I feel in allowing better viewing and easier install of the LCD and, more importantly, show a way of better locating and improving rigidity to the top end... Something I was going to share a couple days ago with SeeMe, but they beat me to the punch with V2...

First, I used 1" standoffs to mount the rambo. I wanted the room for air circulation, and as it happened it was perfect for a 40mm fan mounted to the support in back. It's hard to see in the pics. Basically a clip on the fan spaced to grab the melamine, and a strip of velcro(fuzzy stuff in pic) to hold it at whatever angle I wanted. It's wired to be on all the time. It blows nicely across the bottom of the board and out the bay.

40mm 5V fan running off a spare pair of lines from the PSU, hot-melt glued onto the same wall the Rambo is mounted to.

Works a treat although I might look at printing a duct to channel the airflow across the drivers in a happy rush.

I posted a photo in the E3D thread in this topic. I used a 40mm fan and it just fits ion the LCD cutout. A little silicone or super glue keeps it in place. I've not had a single extruder skip since doing this with over 100 parts and counting.

I've had the "to cool from the front or to cool from the back" conversation with a guy from the local makerspace... There's the cooler anywhere is better school of thought, and the heatsink pulls heat the wrong directions school of thought. Without me throwing in my opinion and muddying the water, can you explain why you are cooling the back of the circuit board instead of the front of the chip itself?

I'm cooling the front of the board/chip itself. I have my RAMBo mounted on an upright stand I made that sits more or less in the middle of the compartment with the component side facing the door. It is not mounted on the door.

Having gone through something similar I would point out two things in cooling; a fan without a shroud or duct of some kind in free air is very inefficient, lots of recirculation. Second that a fan within a mostly closed compartment will do a nice job of homogenizing the air within that compartment but not do much to lower the temperature.
Put a fan in a sealed bulkhead and use it to either bring in cool air (best, especially if focused on hot spot) or exhaust warm air.

I went with the rear cooling initially because it is clean and easy, but I think it may be more beneficial than a more recirculatory fan blowing on the front. My setup draws cool air in front the outside to the opposing bay which is somewhat thermally insulated from the warmer electronics bay. It then blows cold air directly onto the backside of the chip as opposed to across the warm board.

Have those that adopted to go with the tiny stick on heat sinks had good luck with them?

When I attempted it I shorted my RAMBo. The stepper drivers are VERY low profile components and they are very close to other components, so be careful!

I had these coolers laying around and mounted them to the dedicated positions at the back. Later I experienced overheating and skipping (especially of the extruder stepper) and added the fan I had laying around
