Infill gaps

I showed this over at the 'what are you making' section, but I wanted some feedback.

How on earth do I get slic3r to infill small areas nicely? Notice the c clip is not filled nicely at all.
It's hard to see, but also the top layer on the inner right hand side has a small gap - these show up when the fill is perpedicular to the perimeter.
I've run through triffid hunters calibration guide as well as the one from polygonhell
I've switched to the e3d head and recalibrated e steps etc. Still the same problematic gapping on fills (including infill)

Using e3d v5 head with .4mm nozzle

.2 layer height
.3 infill
4 perimeters
30mms speed on most, but 50% speed on external perimeters and 5mms on gap fill (to try and hold back the ridiculously fast zig zags it does on small fills)
default extrusion width: .44mm
first layer: .55
perimeters: .5
infill: .4
solid infill .5
top solid .44
support material .35

filament is abs
temp: 210
bed temp: 90

retraction: 5mm
z lift: .3
speed: 50mms

Is there another name for this problem, I'm sure it's been covered before, I just don't know what to call it but 'infill gap'

i use kiss but you should look for a setting that control infill extrusion width. or try slicing in a different program

If you want the piece to be completely solid then set solid infill to every 1 layer.

I'm printing a test cube with solid infill now.
I normally don't want solid infill though, just some small parts - does slic3r not know how to fill thin pieces?

I have not had any trouble at all with slic3r leaving gaps. Do you have the top layer set for solid infill? I set it to top 3 and bottom 3.

it was my understanding that this may be an issue with your arms sticking. I have this issue to a minor degree and I keep forgetting to go buy some graphite. I heard that applying dry lubricant to the u-joints my address this issue

Wow how did I miss these two replies...

Anyway. I never did get slic3r to properly close these gaps. Yes even with lots of solid top layers it leaves this sort of mess.

Kisslicer on the other hand has never had any infill gap of any sort... as well as the other bonuses that Kiss offers. I just don't think slic3r handles filament flow very well at all...

One other thing you could try is setting the extrusion width for top/bottom layers to a different value - it's on that advanced settings screen. Telling the extruder the width is narrower should force it to lay down more plastic.
