I love the reduced part count. Because of the fewer internal vertical supports, installing the top is a breeze.

The two-layer top section really stiffens up the whole mechanical system and the very tight "post holes" in the base plate should ensure that radial alignment errors are a thing of the past.

The new u-joint capture system has been improved such that you'll never need to sand the arfing things ever again.

John did some testing and it turns out the whole plumb thing may not have been an issue at all. He did an experiment where he'd purposefully knocked the towers 1/4" out of true and there was no measurable difference in the test parts he was printing.

Another more recent change was done to the u-joints and the axles. It turns out a huge contributing factor to the galling problem with the u-joints was an off-nominal diameter in the rod stock they were using. They've changed to using the same stock they're using for the injection molding machine ejector pins - they're nitride coated and shouldn't bind or gall at all any longer. I think there was a diameter change as well, so the "old" u-joints may no longer fit properly on the new axles.

The next injection molded part is going to blow you guys away. 2 parts with two screws replace 7 parts, 6 screws and 6 nuts. It'll be shown off at MRRF.

Hehe. Unfortunately the first prints need to be the fan shrouds. I'll get around to it at some point though.

That's not fair! You leave us hanging wondering what that part is. I do hope you are going to explain that sentence after the MRRF. You should be a weekly movie
writer where the viewer is left hanging until the next episode.

It's getting off topic for this discussion, but I wonder what the 'real' fix is for people that keep having issues printing on the whole bed... I'm one of them. I've never been able to reach the edge of my bed in a flat way (always high spots between the towers and dead on right at the towers). I've always blamed myself for being a hair out of level on my towers, but apparently there's a different smoking gun? (my TL carbon arms are precisely 269mm, and I've tried to loosen the bed and press on it with a level while you tighten it... haven't tried shimming yet, but that seems unnecessary for a machine that's otherwise very close to tolerance)

My guesses for the blow your mind part changes would be the cheapskates or the EZstruder, or maybe possibly even more effector changes 0.o. I would put my money on the cheapskates though, thats something that would really blow my mind

That's the rumor I hope is true too.

After looking at the V2 manual the cheapskates are not that much different except they don't have the center roller and look similar to what the Orion uses.
Looks like Gene is going to keep it a "secret" until next week's episode.
