Rostock Max v2 stops printing mid-print

I've noticed this issue on several occasions now. It's probably happened 5 times. I'll be printing something and the bot just stops in the middle of the print. I print only via the SD card and I'm wondering if perhaps that SD card wiggles loose or something, killing the print. It just happened this morning. I got about 80% into my print and then it just died. I tried using the LCD to view the contents of the card but could not see any files on it. Maybe it's the card, maybe it wiggles loose after fully seated, maybe the sd card reader on the board is bad. What do you think?

The machine still has power when this happens?
I've heard that others have had mixed luck with the Sandisk SD cards. Give a different SD card a try and see what happens.

Jim, you are 100 percent correct about the card. The one that ships with the LCD are not speed rated. You really need a Class 5 or
higher card. Replace that card and the prints stopping mid-stream should be over.

Alright, I'll try a new card first. There is a CVS that is about a half mile away from me. I think they sell class 10 Sandisk cards there. I'll run over there in a few minutes.
Oh, by the way, yes. The machine still has power when this happens. It's as if the machine just pauses. The heaters are still on.

This has been a recent thing - I've noticed that the cards coming from Ultimachine are no longer the Sandisk branded ones that I've seen in the past. They've got kind of a generic look to them...

They are also missing a speed rating. There should be a half circle with a speed rating number inside of it. The cards shipping now are missing that symbol.

Alright. Skipped up and bought an 8gb Class 10. I don't know anything about the SD card reader in the Rostock so here's hoping an 8gb isn't too big for it. I'll transfer the stuff from the original card and see what happens.

I'm going to have to try this myself, I gave up on using the SD card to print because probably 75% of the time it would would just stop mid print with the hotend and bed still on just like the OP melting a little conical circle into the part, I tried cleaning up the cable routing to keep other cables away from the LCD's ribbon cables and ferrite cores on them with no luck.

By the way, I've not had one single lock-up since switching to this faster card. I've probably printed a dozen or more pieces since then.

I ran out yesterday after work and got a class 10 card, did some printing last night with that card and no problems at all

I'm glad that that was the fix so I can print untethered, but annoyed that that is now the 2nd component that came with the kit that "worked" but was insufficient spec wise to work properly with the printer, I would have much rather them just charged me $20 more for the kit and gave me parts that work properly.

Note that that SD card isn't SeeMe's fault. Their supplier for the LCD displays used to include official SanDisk SD cards, but for some reason as of late they switched to el cheapo version you received. Not sure if this is Ultimachine or RepRapDiscount's deal on this one. It might be a good idea to email the SeeMe guys and talk to them about this, they may be able to make some changes to the kits going out?

Looks like that wasn't a 100% fix either because it just did it again, at least it fails less often, but still not reliable enough that I would trust any large long print time jobs to it :/
Edit: never mind, looks like that failure was a different issue, tried again and it failed at the exact same spot, loaded the g-code in repetier host and something happened with the saving and the g-code was incomplete.

Just wanted to say that the kit I received a few days ago included a class 4 8GB SanDisk card. If your card doesn't have a speed rating then it's most likely not genuine. SD cards are one of the most counterfeited products, so more than likely they purchased a bulk order of these fakes, which often fail very quickly, and that's probably the problem associated with the SD cards, rather than its speed rating. Of course, I'm just speculating. I haven't even finished my build yet.

Yeah, mine probably was a counterfeit one, it has no brand name and no speed rating, just a little thing that says high speed, it was also only 4GB, not 8GB like yours.

The issue with SDCArds and arduino boards like the RAMBO, is you can only use cards that support an SPI interface, for the most part this is smaller capacity cards, and for some manufacturers none of their cards work (Kingston for example)

So far the higher class card I switched to has solved our lock up problems.

SD card (ELITE PRO 4GB, was with kit) died on first print. But I finish print by editing gcode.

From what I have read on the various forums, a card rated class 10 or above works the best and Kingston is one card to stay away from.

You need a card that supports the SPI interface, that usually means smaller capacities (2-4GB) and no Kingston cards support it
