New to printing and just got my Rostock V2 last week. I can print the fan shrouds and things like cubes just fine. If I try to print things that are more intricate, such as a chain, the printing gets about a quarter of the way through and the hot end starts to hit the object and will knock it loose and off the bed. When the hot end moves to print in another area, it appears it is not moving up high enough and strikes the object.
I'm using the latest version of Repetier for Windows (couldn't get Mac version to work, but that's another story).
Appreciate any assistance....thanks in advance!
Issues with hot end hitting object as it prints
Re: Issues with hot end hitting object as it prints
I suspect that you're not giving the ABS (if that's what you're printing with) enough time to cool. I would recommend printing multiples of the object (if possible) or slow down the print speed. Both will allow for part cooling between layers.

What slicer are you using? I would do some research on "z-hop or z-lift". You might also be over extruding. I would look at Polygonhell's thread here: http://forum.seemecnc.com/viewtopic.php?f=54&t=1163

Re: Issues with hot end hitting object as it prints
Thank you for the replies.
Maybe it would help if I clarified the issue a little more. I'm trying to print a 5-link chain. The print starts fine, beginning with 5 separate pieces. The hot-end will print to each individual piece, moving from one to the next, then repeat. After a short amount of time, the hot-end will strike one of the pieces and will knock it loose. This happens once the 'flat' printing has completed and it begins to print on the edges of each piece as it builds each link of the chain. It's appears the hot-end is moving from piece to piece at the same level without moving up slightly to clear the next. Hope that makes sense.
Gene, I've tried with ABS and PLA with fans running. The other prints I have done, which have been the fan shrouds and a few cubes have came out better than a lot of the pictures I've seen posted. I'm very happy with the results I've gotten with those pieces. I've also repeated the PID autotunes and reran and validated calibration settings.
Batteau62, I didn't find anything on the research you suggested and I'm using Slic3r with the default settings for each material used.
Any ideas?
Thanks, again for your feedback.

Re: Issues with hot end hitting object as it prints
In the Mac version of Slic3r, look in "Printer settings" - "Extruder 1" and set the "Lift Z" to like...1mm. You should see the hot end lift a tiny bit when it retracts and moves to the next starting point. Hopefully missing the previously printed layer.

The other thing I would do is print this with a "brim". In "Print settings" - "skirt and brim" set it to like...5mm. It should print a five line silhouette of the part, attached to the first layer. You should be able to snap it off pretty easy upon completion. This will really help the part stick better. And give it some stability, if it doesn't have a large "footprint" to begin with.
Hope this helps!

Re: Issues with hot end hitting object as it prints
Awesome! Thanks, that has corrected the issue. I've tried to use the Mac version of Repetier, but I haven't been able to get it to connect to the printer. I selected the usbmodemfd1311 in the Printer Settings but it doesn't respond. There isn't any drivers, correct?
Re: Issues with hot end hitting object as it prints
Good to hear!
As to the connection issue, as far as I know/remember there are no drivers to install? What "host" are you using to print now? To be honest, it's been awhile since I used my mac to print. I have a Windows laptop controlling it now. You've probably looked here: http://www.repetier.com/documentation/r ... onnection/ I don't think the Rambo needs a driver install. Maybe someone with more mac connection experience will chime in. Best of luck!

Doesn't it have an SD slot? if so, I'd most certainly recommend using that.mdrevs wrote:Awesome! Thanks, that has corrected the issue. No drivers, but there can be several USB modem devices listed, and the exact number depends on which USB port you are plugged into, mine is on usbmodem641.mdrevs wrote:Awesome! The only other thing that should matter is setting the baud rate correctly, the default is 250000
