I have been doing soak tests of the tenkara line spools and fishing reels printed in PLA. I printed 3 sets of parts. One is the control, i soaking in room temp water and the other soaking in 40°C water. These parts have been soaking for 6 weeks now and there is no observable effect on water soaking. Composting PLA requires significant heat AND moisture. For all practical purposes, it is not a problem to use in wet environments, like rivers and lakes!
One big difference to me is the properties of ABS and PLA. ***EDIT*** PLA - I meant ABS! ***EDIT*** is more flexible and for some applications this is desirable. It can also handle a bit more heat than PLA. PLA on the other hand is much stiffer but consequently more brittle.
I look at these materials as tools to solve design problems for my parts. The more tools (i.e. filaments) we have at our disposal, the better!

The content is drowned out by the grammatical errors.
If the author uses English as a second language, he could use a bit of work on tenses and the use of plurals.
If the author is a native English speaker, he should hide in his basement and practice writing until he doesn't sound like a total retard.

I didn't make it, just found the picture and felt it was useful for showing newbies differences between materials regardless of the errors.

It's an interesting poster - though I argue the PLA is as stong as ABS. I'm not sure 'strength' is a great word to use anyway... They are both very strong, but ABS is more elastic than PLA under stress. If I wanted something to survive being dropped and treated roughly, I would use ABS.
It does clear up some misconceptions about PLA though, perhaps we should make a larger and Conan approved version?

My girlfriend is a graphic designer... only if she didn't currently hate me for choosing a printer over her this last week.

Tell her that you'll love her again if she does this....
Or I could do it since I'm a graphic designer too

Eh no, I'm too busy this month :/

Yeas, meant ABS - thanks! I had the new PLAFlex on the mind when I wrote that!
