I am looking at a MAKERBOT
REPLICATOR
DESKTOP 3D PRINTER
and wondered if the rostock or Orion compare? Obviously I am new to the 3d world. There is quite a price difference but i understand the rostock max is a kit and the orion is ready to print. Will i get better prints form a makerbot or a Cube?
So many questions.
Thanks
Jim

You come onto a forum that specializes in The Rostock Max and the Orion and ask if the other printers such as Makerbutt and Ripofflicator will give better prints? I don't think they give better prints they are better at wasting your money
however. Try to match the build volume of the Rostock Max with one of the others you mentioned. The Rostock Max and the Orion are the best printers created.
By the way if you go on a Ford site and ask them if Ford is better than GM guess what kind of answer you will get.

I've never used the other 3D printers, but this was my first and it has been fantastic. Just started my 3D adventures in February and I couldn't be happier with my machine. It's got a huge build volume and if you ever have a problem, the guys on this forum are amazing at helping you get to the root of the issue. Customer support from SeeMeCNC is top notch too.

Whatever you choose do NOT buy the new 5th gen makerbot. They are pretty much a disaster at this point. If you go with makerbot stick with the rep 2.
I own both a MB rep 2 (heavily upgraded) and an Orion. They are both good printers. With the price difference it would be pretty safe to say the Orion is the better value.

You can get excellent prints out of pretty much any printer, ultimaker, makerbot, prusa, seemeCNC, printerbot etc.
The amount of work you have to put in to get there can vary a great deal. I would strongly recommend reading the various forums and looking at the issues people have. Even if you buy prebuilt, the odds are when it gets to you after being bashed around in shipping you will have calibration issues.
I still recommend people build the printer, if only because when something does fail you will be in a much better position to diagnose and fix it.
A well calibrated printer can be pretty much load the model and press print, but getting there for those without experience can be a frustrating experience.
If I were buying a prebuilt printer in the price range of the Makerbot I'd probably take a serious look at the Ultimaker2, but be aware of the issues (read the forums). I've build XY stages for printers with most of the common configurations, and that's the one I think has the least drawbacks. Rostock style printers can be great, and the printer I use commonly is my original RostockMax, but they need to be built square and they need to be calibrated properly, you get a lot more leeway with a traditional gantry style printer.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Except eaglesore. I was asking harmless questions, geez.
I like the delta style . The makerbot seems too expensive for some added toys and gizmos.
Thanks agian.

I apologize for coming across the way I did.
As you can tell from some of the answers, you can get good prints from all the printers you mentioned.
What the Rostock Max has going for it is its large print volume. It has the largest of any printer in its
price range and the largest of most printers costing 4 times as much. It is not a difficult build because
a user named Gene created an excellent manual that guides you through the build.
Irregardless of which printer you purchase I wish you the best.

@Hush
We are all a bit "fanboy" about our printers and that's why it can be tough to get facts rather than opinions. I suppose you'd be in a similar situation if you asked a Chevy guy why his car was better than a Ford, right? It will start off with a bunch of horse@#$t before you get right down to the nitty gritty.
I own a FlashForge Creator Dual. It's a Chinese made clone of a Makerbot Repicator but with some improvements. It's a great printer. I love it. Their service and support is pretty outstanding too. Their shipping is fast and they speak English if that is important to you. My prints typically look fantastic. I'd recommend one to anybody.
Also, I am a new owner of a Rostock Max v2. It's an amazing machine with a much bigger print envelope than my FlashForge. It's every bit as good as my FlashForge in regard of a resulting print. I didn't think I was ever going to get prints on my Rostock to come out as nice as my FlashForge at first but after spending A LOT of time dialing in my slicer (and changing nozzles) my prints are finally there. I knew it wasn't the Rostock itself but the guy sitting behind the keyboard. SeeMeCNC makes fabulous printers. Very well constructed. Very easy to work on and make mods. Their service and support is top notch. These guys are quite passionate about their work. They don't seem like your typical 9-to-5ers. They live and breath this stuff. Would I recommend a SeeMeCNC printer to someone? Damn sure I would!
I think you need to ask yourself four things. Can I afford it? Is it reliable? Does it produce quality prints? Will I get support? There are several 3D printers out there that are wonderful. SeeMeCNC and Makerbot are just two companies. Everything has pros and cons. Figure out what is important to you and make your decision. If you decide on an Orion or Rostock Max then you'll be welcomed into to a pretty rad community of people.
