Spring clips making u-joints too tight?

Post by whaleboy »

I'm putting together the U-joints on the cheapskates, and the round u-Joints move freely on the metal rod, but when I put the plastic retaining clips on, it pushes in on the joints too hard and creates a lot of friction on the motion. The joints are very stiff now and I can't imagine it would be good to have the joints that stiff. Is this as designed? How freely should they rotate? I imagine as freely as possible as long as there is no slop?

it is designed... during our testing we started with weaker cliips, and it created too much slop in the motion and a worse surface finish on parts being printed. no worries!
