printing ABS issues
printing ABS issues
im having this issue with layers that less than 10-15 second (small layers) the detail never come right and i am seeking help on what to start adjusting to get it right if possible.
what i tried so far:
set the fan on 30% if layer time is below 10 second
slow the speed to 8 if layer time is below 30 second
set the extruder temperature to 215C

Re: printing ABS issues
Generally speaking, a layer fan is not used to cool ABS, it is needed to cool PLA.mrbdrm wrote:im having this issue with layers that less than 10-15 second (small layers) the detail never come right and i am seeking help on what to start adjusting to get it right if possible.

Try printing ABS with cooling turned off. The temperature of 215c is close to what is needed but I generally use 220c to 230c for ABS.
These are not absolute temperatures and are dependent on the filament you are using, etc. The bed temperature for ABS should be at
least 90c. Experimentation is what is required because my settings and your settings are going to be unique for each individual.

Re: printing ABS issues
The sitting you describe is what i was using before trying to fix the issue and the problem was worse. and yes to my knowledge the fan is for PLA but i figured that the issue was there was not enough time for the layer to cool off before the next one start. i want to make sure that it's a setting issue not delta or hot end issue or calibration.
im using the filament that was shipped with the orion,
here is another test.
thank you for the fast respond

Re: printing ABS issues
What slicer are you using ? ABS no fan lots of heat 225/230. Have you tried to load the .ini files for abs from SeeMeCNC to get a good starting point? http://download.seemecnc.com/orion/Orio ... -2ndEd.pdf the downloads are on page 50 just import them into slicer. I did not get the results I wanted till I tried KISSlicer , To quote someone else "It feels like a new printer!"
All the info is here if you need it http://forum.seemecnc.com/viewforum.php?f=15. The downloads are the first post .. good luck

Re: printing ABS issues
One other thing you can do is in slic3r settings, under cooling, turn ON active cooling... but for abs you want your min/max fan speed set to 0 (so it doesnt turn on) and set a minimum layer time to like 20 seconds.. the only way it will use the minimum layer time is if active cooling is on, so you must set the fans to 0 so they dont turn on, but still use the layer times...

Re: printing ABS issues
after i fixed my orion i was trying to get the small parts to print right with all the slicers except simplify.
non of them worked right with the small nubs and i changed alot of factors in cooling and still no luck until i used "Cool Head Lift" in cura

Re: printing ABS issues
I don't know what the "Cool Head Lift" option does in Cura but it worked wonders on your parts.
I'll have to start using that option as well.

Re: printing ABS issues
It makes it so rack layer must take the min layer time to complete by lifting the nozzle off of the part for a few seconds to let the part cool. Works nice if you don't have retraction issues

Re: printing ABS issues
Yep that was the issue no matter what speed i set the layer was too fast
while i was watching the print i noticed that it did not retract when the print head was waiting so there was filament still going but at the end it was easy to move off by hand.
in regards of retraction, haven't touch them it was the default from seemecnc and its great

I do a cool head lift when I see someone in an oncoming car that I know.
