Print hold down bracket
Print hold down bracket
I print everything in ABS so I have to deal with the coming un stuck from the bed issue and curling on the edges a lot so I came up with this solution for helping with that problem, hold down brackets, I start the print and once it gets high enough layer wise I add these on, atm i'm just using 2 yard sticks but when I get a chance i'm going to pick up some 1/4" square dowels to use instead.
Re: Print hold down bracket
it does that with a brim?
Re: Print hold down bracket
Yup, most of the stuff I've printed were fairly thin parts so I add brims to the edges when I model my parts to help bed adhesion, but still I occasionally have an issue, this seems to work like a charm.
Re: Print hold down bracket
i would look into getting a alum plate.. it will give you more even spread heating, im curious if it always happens in one spot on your bed?
Re: Print hold down bracket
Yeah, an aluminum plate to spread the heat on on the bed more evenly is on my list, as is building an enclosure around the build area. It doesn't happen in one specific spot but it does happen as I get closer to the edges of the build plate so i'm sure the outer edges not being hot enough is the problem.
Re: Print hold down bracket
Ive used a dab of superglue on some of my prints corners at the start and work great but didnt want to depend on anything , and now im printing abs on bluetape , not all bluetape works , Rust-Oleum Am blue tape heated to about 50c , just tried to use 3m bluetape and it wouldnt stick at all ,the 3m was a smooth surface compared to the rustoleum tape.

The superglue trick is cool at first but it will come back to bite you in the ass one day when the bed cools down at the parts pop off with the superglue pulling chunks of glass out with it. I have used plain old acetone (not slurry) brushed overtop of the peeling brim layer to force them back down on my prints now, seems to work pretty well, lookin into using window tint as well.
