Enclosed build chamber on a budget

Post by Shizuma »

I've been wanting to make an enclosed build chamber for my V1 rostock max since I got it since I almost exclusively print in ABS and I finally got around to doing it. When designing it I wanted it to be easy to make, affordable, and still look half way decent, this is what I came up with.

It cost me $15 for the 5 30" x 20" foam board panels, $6 for the 2 10" x 8" acrylic panels and some small amount of filament for the brackets that hold it all together.

Overall I'm very happy with it, I do still need to print up a handle for the door and glue the magnets I'm going to use for latches into place (hence the blue masking tape holding it closed), and I think I'm also going to tape the seams between the panels since there are some gaps, but it's mostly done, I just need to get a thermometer to measure the temp inside the enclosure.

I know the steppers are down lower, but I'm wondering. Is it any quieter with your enclosure?

Nope, it didn't make it any noticeable amount quieter, from what I've read most of the noise is the x,y,z steppers resonating the lower enclosure.
