Hey guys,
I have a problem with my hotend and have been racking my mind as to what could be the problem.
I start by turning on the heated bed. When its close to 75 degrees, I then start heating the hot end.....nothing happens on the temperature curve!! The lights on the Rambo board turn on and I have checked all connections.
Here's the weird part. G28 the machine and it starts to heat up. Hits 220 degrees and is fine. After about a minute or two it starts to drop?!?
So....I bring the Z height down 100 and it heats back up to 220 and maintains that level for as long as I like.
So I start printing a simple Gcode part (8 minute part) and after the first layer, give or take, the temp dives and doesn't recover. Kill the job....G28. Nothing happens and temps still falling. Bring Z height down 100 and the temp curve recovers and maintains 220 degrees for as long as I like???
I'm completely lost....
Guess I'll re-check the connections AGAIN and PID auto tune the hot end....but I think it's got something to do with the software....Any ideas?!?!?!
FYI...it's an original Rostock from the first few kits. Running Repetier0.56. Hot end is a J head that has produced fantastic prints.....Tricklaser arms....
Hot end issue...weird?!?!

Re: Hot end issue...weird?!?!
Ok...so it MAY be my connector between the hot end and the power source (I added a quick disconnect to easily remove the hot end and extruder from machine). I added a few more tie down zip cords around the connector and is working for now.
Another weird thing is that after the first layer....the machine stops for about 30 seconds with the hot end on the print and then finally starts???? Also the hot bed heats up about and extra 10 to 15 degrees then when the print starts again it drops back to 75......Hhhhhmm.

Have you ran the Pid Calibration on the Heatbed and the hotend?JakeCShake wrote:Ok...so it MAY be my connector between the hot end and the power source (I added a quick disconnect to easily remove the hot end and extruder from machine). If you are not sure what that is just do a search on PID in the Max subforum.
That connector you have on your hotend should not be intermittent like that, it sounds like it is designed to lightly and I would recommend
something that can carry more current reliably.
