I attempted to print this:
http://repables.com/r/143/
However it turned out like this so I aborted the print:
That model needs some support material to do that overhang for ABS. Not sure about other materials.
I am considering chopping just the plate of in the model and add some alignment holes. Then put some of that high temp rtv between it a fixed distance and let it cure between two plates. That might make a nice damper. Might also need some ooze holes so the silicone can grip the plastic better.

Re: Tried Making Motor Dampers
Did you get any further on this project? From my classical knowledge of mechanical engineering, I would think you would need some elastic material in the vibration dampers. Silicone may work, but would I would worry that it would not be strong enough to support the motor's weight and/or belt tension. That said, I don't have a lot of practical experience in dampers, outside rubber compressor mounts used in FIRST High School Robotics competitions. I've mentored teams for about 13 years now. If you got this to work I would like to know what you ultimately did and how much improvement it made. I've been considering buying the commercial versions from Astroboy907. My RMax kit will arrive this week and wondering if I want to do some damping from the beginning.

I just put the commercial ones on my printer (I bought them from http://3d.grabercars.com/) - so much quieter than stock. It's not terribly hard to do after your printer is built, but if you're thinking about doing it, just do it at the start.lbarger wrote:Did you get any further on this project? I have 2 of the Rostocks running and the commercial dampers make about a 50% reduction in sound levels which for me was indeed impressive.lbarger wrote:Did you get any further on this project? Astroboy907 sells them on this forum, you can send him a pm by clicking the multi-colored icon on top (members) and finding his name and clicking it, PM will be one of the options.

Re: Tried Making Motor Dampers
I ordered a set this morning and they already shipped. Yet another mod on my initial 'stock' build. I'm up to four already. (Paint edging, beefier ps, internal power extension cords to cut leaving PS stock for easy swap if needed, now dampers) Thankfully the kit will be here on Wednesday so I will focus on building and quick finding other ideas on these forums for a while.

I think the upgrades were all smart ones and you will be glad you did them in the future.lbarger wrote:I ordered a set this morning and they already shipped. Re: Tried Making Motor Dampers
Does TPE (Ninjaflex, Bendlay, etc) stick to ABS/PLA? As well as they stick to themselves? Me thinks perhaps printable functioning dampers are possible.
