Checking in from Beaverton. I picked up a Rostock Max at the Maker Faire in San Mateo.
I've been futzing around with 3D printers since day 1 (or close to it) starting with trying to make something called at McWire out of pipes and lucite. That ended up being a total disaster, but hugely educational and I was hooked. I've got a Mendel mostly done, but would like to print out some better/newer parts for it.

Hoping the Max isn't too difficult to tune. Certainly the huge print size was a big draw.

Off to see if there's any good build tips in the other forums.

It is not difficult to tune, it is not easy to tune. You have to have the ability to
focus and to concentrate on what you are doing. If you are trying to tune the Max
with a different tune in your head, it is not going to work.
Pay complete attention to the manual, ask questions if you feel the need and soon you
will making prints that you can be proud of.

Thanks! Most of the pain with the Mendel is that there's so many variables (extruder from one source, hot head from another, X motor type, etc) that it's hard to get it all dialed in. With the Max, it's all same-sourced, so the tips/tweaks/values should be a lot more consistent.

Woot! Built the Rostock is just over a 3 day weekend - Got a little hung up due to incorrect wiring (I think I was actually missing some), but other than that, the build was awesome. Excellent tuning instructions - printing my first print (the fan shroud) now.
