3d Scanning - too many options! what's worked for you?

So there are a TON of different 3d scanning solutions out there.

What have you guys had success with? Laser scanning? Photogrammetry?

Did you purchase a solution or hand roll your own?

The resolution seems pretty low on that method - albeit cheap.

I wonder - is there a high quality method for under $1k? I'm surprised I haven't seen any high quality home-brewed open source options! Maybe that means it is time for one!

$650 Canon t4i + VisualSFM + Mesh software = 3d scanner, and you get a kick butt camera to use elsewhere.

You do need a fairly nice computer to do it with any sort of speed though.

Hey everyone - I bought a used Kinect to play around with. Also this solution that uses a linear laser pointer and a webcam seemed worth trying too
