Axles on the Orion Delta...

Has anyone had trouble with the axles (mainly the 3 at the bottom) working
their way out. The problem seems to be getting more pronounced lately.

Thanks,

You got a picture?

I think that you find that the axles need light lubrication. Normally the universals should rotate freely on the shafts. If they drag it can cause a slight rotation of the shafts in the effector leading to them walking out.

Here is a picture concerning the axles. There is one that doesn't work out
because the bracket holding the fan keeps it in place. I assume that a light
oil could be used on axles, but if you have any suggestion on a particular
type of oil - let me know.

Thanks,

I read that a dry lubricant should be used.

Is there an official list of recommended lubes? I've been using a PFTE dry lube for a while now and I'm finding the u joints keep seizing up. Perhaps it's the brand, but it's really not working out :/ I've switched to another type of lube, but I would like to know what SeeMe uses.

Update to axle movement: I used a light oil from a barbers trimmer. It seems
to be working well. No movement since I applied the oil.

Thanks again for your suggestions,

I have the same problem. Any reason they didn't use c-clips on the ends?

See my thread on U joint issue down on the list. I used that stuff from Lowes and haven't had a problem since.

I just got my Orion last week (end of June 2014). Came with firmware v91.

It appears there are two screws for each rod which clamp them in place on the three tower what-cha-ma-calls.

However, the three on the hot end don't seem to have anything preventing them from walking out. But it seems the nozzle fan's shroud would prevent two of them from walking out in one direction.

How much force do they walk out with?
Is it gradual or sudden?

I printed out a couple of "stops". I attached them via the unused hole near the rod ends. (The same hole is on all three corners. On one of them is in use by the nozzle fan.)

I used a 4-40 nylon bolt to hold them in place. Now if the rods start to slide these will stop them from going very far. I've attached the STL if anybody wants it.

I've been wanting to add some LEDs so I think I'll end up using these as LED holders too.

What are CF rods? Carbon Fiber? Did you replace the stock rods?

"Gary" - As far as the rods go, they take quite awhile to "walk out". I don't think
there is a lot of force though. I took someone else's advice and put a little
lubricant on the shaft before pushing them back into place. The lubricant does
allow the shafts to cause less binding thereby not work out as much or as fast.
I just pushed one of them back yesterday and it's the first time I've had to do
it since I added some very thin oil quite a while ago. I used oil form and electric
clippers.

Hope this helps,

Oops - Forgot to mention, there is an upgrade to the software you might want to
check on. It's VO.95F.

I looked at GitHub and here in the Downloads section - I can't find anything higher than 91. Where did you get it?

Hi Guys, Here's a picture to identify the platform revision. Revision 1 has one tab. Revision 2 is the current model and has 3 tabs. I'm unaware of anyone having a problem with walking axles in rev 2. I made a completely different mold set for revision 2 and it has a very tight grip on the axle. Anyone with problems with a revision 2 platform should email support at seemecnc.com so it can be reviewed and corrected. :)

I believe the .95F that he is referring to is the Repetier Host which is available at Repetier.com - downloads.

Ok, good to know, thanks. The silly little part I made uses the two unused tabs on Rev 2. I guess they'll be LED holders afterall.

Concerning the "platform" revisions, I guess I've got "revision 1". Also on the
"revision 2" style, does that allow you to reposition the fan in 2 other locations?

Thanks,

Yes, an additional fan, or almost anything, can be mounted to the other positions. It is extremely strong, I injection molded most plastic parts on our machine from glass filled nylon.

I wonder if the version 2 can be printed and if so, where is the Stl?

Hello everyone. It's been awhile since my last post. I'm going to get back to printing as soon as I can.

Just wanted to thank SeeMeCNC for the parts they sent me concerning the
axles working their way out. I haven't yet had a chance to use the new parts
but I will sometime in the near future.

Thanks again,
