I've recently started noticing very heavy stringing on my prints, so they're basically covered in very fine hairs on the inside of the piece, wherever the hot end has been travelling. The pieces are ok on the outside, but unfortunately since these are wind instruments, the inside needs to be as clear as possible, too.

Does anyone have experience of this problem? Any thoughts?

Staff at SeeMeCNC said that, if I'm using ABS (which I am) then this means I'll need to replace the liner inside the hot end.

Does anyone have experience of this process - what do I need to do to replace this liner? What materials, parts or tools will I need?

I realise this may have been covered before, although couldn't find anything with my forum searches - if so, if someone could throw me a link to a previous thread, that'd be great.

I've not had the printer long, but have run it quite a bit. Is there something I could be doing to prevent this happening in future, or is it just a natural wear and tear issue?

Which slicer are you using? Some are far better at managing retracts than others. If it's a solid piece, it's possible to do it with very minimal or no retracts going over the open space.

I'm currently using Slic3r

The problem's cropped up gradually during the last several prints, originally I was getting really nice, clean prints.

What slicer would you recommend?

It's a tall tube. It can be solid. Usually is more or less solid as the walls of the tube aren't really thick enough to show the infill. The hole through the middle of the tube is about half an inch wide.

Look on the slicr website for Oozefighting. Those small details helped me out alot, especially retracting.

I'm a large fan of Cura. Instead of retracting on a solid print, it seems to travel/wipe it's way to where it needs to go. Solid objects end up looking amazing.
