I created an all-in-one filament guide and dust collector for my Rostock Max v2. It snaps into place in the existing filament hole on the top of the machine. I live in the desert and am not 7 foot tall so something that wipes the dust and allows me to blindly feed the filament made sense.

That is a really nice design, and a very good print, but I'm not sure how that's going to keep dust off the filament.

if you make the aperture too small, it will grab the filament and starve the extruder.
any larger than that, and dust will fit right along with the filament.

Why not try something a little simpler, like this?

Judging by the top of that Rostock, yes I'd say dust is a problem ;P

It's a monitor brush with a face on it. A paintbrush or a troll doll might work as well.

Holy snotbuckets, that's an old extruder!

If you're using a very tiny nozzle, you want to make sure there's no debris on it. I've got a project that needs a .25 nozzle and I've got a small micro-fiber sponge that I'll be using as a filament wipe on the top end.

All you need to do is shove a couple of pieces of waded up cotton cloth in the box after feeding the filament, big enough not to fit through the funnel and not too tight. The object is to wipe the dust off. I am working on a grate that will fit in the bottom with holes big enough so that you can feed no matter the angle the filament takes but will ensure a sponge can't get through.

I suppose if you added a T to the Bowden hose, then uou could feed in clean air through there. That would create a mild positive pressure and prevent any dust from entering the hose from the top.

If you decide to print this using Repetier you need to scale up by 10. For some reason every time I design something using AutoCAD and export the stl file the size is always divided by 10 even though I use mm for my units.
Once printed you just use a sponge or other dust magnet in the box. This is designed to fit exactly in the pre-drilled hole for the filament.

It sounds like autocad is exporting your file in inches.

It sounds like that to me also but why 10? Wouldn't it be closer to 25?
I am far from being a Cad expert but the 10 just doesn't sound right.

Sounds like it is changing the units to centimeters...that would make it off by a power of 10.
