What's the current rating on the Rostock MAX steppers?

Post by 626Pilot »

I need to know what value to supply for my Azteeg X5. I'm pretty sure it's in amps.

From the Kysan data sheet, it looks like the current ones are rated for 1.2A, I'd run them at under 1A, so they stay relatively cool, with the exception of the extruder, which you want at or slightly above 1A.

Looks like there's an issue with this section in the Smoothieware config:

Code: Select all

digipot_max_current 2.4 # max current
digipot_factor 106.0 # factor for converting current to digipot value
If I set the current to 1, I barely get any torque. Extrusion results in a bunch of soft thuds and not much filament. Setting the current to 2 results in more RAMBo-like behavior. I think digipot_factor is probably wrong. It may have been copied directly from the Smoothieboard, so maybe the Azteeg needs a lower multiplier.

I'm running the steppers on my Kossel with and azteeg with those settings at 0.6A, and they have plenty of torque, but it's heavilly dependent on the voltage rating of the motors, if you have the original Rostock motors they may be rated differently, I'd have to look at the model number.

I just looked and the original Rostock Max steppers are Wantai 42BYGHW811 rated for 2.5A, which implies the 1.2A rating I gave earlier for the newer motor is probably from a different version than the ones SeeMe ship
