Meet DropLit, our little shop project for a projector based resin printer. We've been talking about finally doing something with it for a long time now, since last year really. And thanks to the help of having JJ here now full time, and the rest of the new members at SeeMeCNC, we've been able to start developing it a bit more. The initial specs are going to be:
Build area of appx. 3 1/2" diameter with around 7-8" of build height
Uses standard PC projectors readily available as the UV source, with a little modification
Uses common Open Source Hardware designs, prob. a modified version of our cheapskate for the Z axis, and Arduino based electronics with either reprap derivative or grbl firmware (prototypes using grblshield on an UNO R3)
Lasercut melamine and a few injection molded parts, and CNC machined parts, as always
Affordable kit price, and readily available parts/materials
Right now, using http://envisionlabs.net Creation Workshop software for control/slicing
We have seen over the last few years how fast the tech can evolve when a really great community gets behind it and digs in. Look at RepRap! I also think that we've grown one of the most amazing and ingenious communities out there ourselves, albeit more focused on our specific hardware, but you guys still come up with solutions to about any problem. We'd like to be a part of yet another technology around 3D printing that we think we can contribute to greatly. Resin based printing isn't new, but it isn't as adopted yet, for many reasons. If we can put together kits for guys who like to tinker and experiment, just like we have done with FFF and especially Delta Printers, I think you guys here will have a blast learning and evolving the tech faster than ever. That said, Meet our first prototype, we call it DropLit
